A Happy New Year to everyone
Today started much the same, a bit breezy but no rain as yet although the sky looks a bit dark, no frost as yet but it is cold.

Cloudy for the first day, happy new year and good luck to everyone. 20* outside and 24 in here, last nights log still going. The town put on a great fireworks show, for me 10 km away, sounded like a war had started. Funny how dogs are different, little one is so scared and has to be in my coat, big one is jumping around like its his birthday !

Don't mention those bloody fireworks Jay I let my 19 year old moggy out last night at about 11.15 knowing she would be back within 10 minutes or so. Then some A-hole set off a bloody great explosive firework a few seconds later, it wasn't even midnight the freaking moron. Annie went barking mad as usual, she is not scared she just goes out in sympathy with all the sudden noise, it must have scared the crap out of the cat as she did not return until this morning despite me making several nocturnal visits to the front door to see if she had come home again.

OOO ! My cats are shut in the stable with Glory before dark every single night, and these 3 are now 2 years old. Any of my cats that dont come in usually disappear, which is why I buy small fish, one each every night.

My cat is usually in all night and now she is older she stays about the house and garden.

Today dawned frozen crisp with a THICK layer of white front on everything. Noon now and the front yard is still covered with frost (in the shade) but I can see from the thermostat the outside temp is now 35 degrees.

Out City did fireworks at midnight but the entire show is lucky to last 5 minutes. I walked to the end of my driveway and was able to see them all exploding out over the Strait.

Fireworks is very hard on animals and I bet your old cat was terrified. My old dog used to go crazy barking and carrying on and I had to constantly just say "sit/stay" and "stop it" (barking).

Hopefully after a good night sleep for BOTH of you H you and the cat will be back to normal.

Yep she is fine, I suppose at her age (nearly 20) she has seen it all before, but it does scare animals, anyway she has slept on my bed all day

Now that she is back home and inside she'll come 'round and be ok. Good day of sleep does wonders.

The sun is still out here but temperature-wise it isn't much above freezing. I've been puttering around - made a loaf of bread in the breadmaker, have chili cooking, vaccum'd everything and been flicking the dust cloth here and there. Have the camera ready to go and have been closely watching the suet feeder but nary a bird in sight! Usually once I put suet out there I get a whole procession of birds lining up to get at it. Today not one! Not even the crows

I'm sitting in a cabin in the middle of Longleat Center Parcs, surrounded by wildlife, even had a deer up close yesterday.

It has persistently rained ever since we have been here, and is very chilly outside. However we are having a fantastic time, my daughter and grandson get around on bikes and I have hired a mobility scooter.

I even managed a game of ping pong with my grandson last night, he was very impressed that even though I haven't played for 50 years, we had an enjoyable game.

Right now the others are off climbing trees etc while I am relaxing on a wonderful,l electrically operated bed!

Its been an odd one here today. This morning seemed unusually warm at 7am, and dry. Then it rained lots, but despite heavy cloud cover, it seemed to get very cold very quickly. Dashing between kennels and the office 2 dozen times in and out of the rain probably hasn't helped my cause much either Just had a quick trolley dash round Aldi in my lunch hour, and I assume I have that eau de wet dog aroma as no one appeared to want to be close So in summary, cold, wet and smelling like a dog.

Oh the delightful odour of wet dog, why is it that dogs pong when they get wet?

Got really cold here last night and there is another thicker layer of frost over top the frost that didn't melt off yesterday. I had to bring in the hummingbird feeders this morning as they were frozen. Didn't take too long to unthaw in the kitchen but for then entire time I had them inside the little hummers buzzed the window. Soon as I put the feeders back outside a couple of them just planted themselves and gorged.

Marsh is frozen and I haven't spied where the swans are.

Not getting much warmer. No sign of the sun. Will be happy if it just warms up a touch.

Winter is here, 15 this morning and rain. Then the sun came back, the forecast said no rain till night. Yeah. Rode out, the drizzle started so home quickly. Been struggling to breathe so packed bag just in case, not pleased.

Woke up to snow - couple inches - just enough to make you want to think before strolling out however since late morning the sun has been out and shining bright!

It's been another dirty mucky day, odd spots of rain, but everywhere you go its muddy, so bad I had to give Annie a proper bath after we got back in again

Careful Horus, you don't want to over do the full baths, or she wont be waterproof! Just a warm shower down without shampoo over the muddy bits is a better option.

Apparently we have had the wettest December sinse records began in the UK, and the warmest too. Our average temperatures are similar to a normal march or even april. I am not complaining. I hate the white stuff.

The TV is full of people in the snow on the Sierra Estrella, made me laugh- its a light sprinkle thats not even enough to make a snowman, the kids were running around trying to find enough for a snowball.Here on the Algarve we dont have snow and rarely have frost. We do have early morning fog, driving to the bootsales at 4 in the morning was, errrm, a relief to get there .. haaa haaa Here its sun, clouds, showers, annoying weather. 19 degrees.
