Shark Week 2016
Anybody watching Shark week 2016? Just realized it was on so will be watching tonight.
Sharks do fascinate me particularly the Bull Shark who can live in both salt and fresh water. Some sharks are just plain ugly and others quite fascinating. We have a couple varieties in the waters around here - one black one called dog fish. If you're trolling to slow to catch a salmon you WILL catch a dog fish as they are everywhere. Ugly black fish.

Can't say I've heard of it? but we do have a small shark living in our waters called a Dog Fish, but it has a more brownish mottled colour and is often sold under the guise of 'Rock Salmon'

Whale sharks blow my mind. 20 tonnes in weight on a diet of plankton?

Re: Shark Week 2016
Once when I was in Port Elizabeth (South Africa) I had the privileged of seeing a large display of the teeth of the extinct shark Megalodon and they were massive, twenty times the size of a Great White.
They also had a mock up of its mouth with 6 adult men sitting inside of it, incidentally that was the photograph that the Sheriff's wife was looking at in a book in the original film of 'Jaws'

Re: Shark Week 2016
Believe me it was and even more disconcerting was a curator saying that some of the Megalodon teeth were NOT fossils

Re: Shark Week 2016
In terms of Megladon IF it hangs in the open ocean and IF it hangs at low(er) level during the day and IF it feeds at night.........
I personally have not discounted that it is totally extinct
I'd LOVE it IF the body of one could be found AND ALIVE would be even better!

If it still exists and survives somewhere in the depths of the oceans, then its body would probably sink.

Re: Shark Week 2016
Actually probably yes - BUT - I can still hope that one day they might find one. I do believe we have discovered the majority 96% of everything there is to discover but I do have a notion that there are lots of deep sea critters we really don't know about.
BTW - Animal Planet via Discovery Channel is putting on a bunch of new (2016) Shark Shows this week hence they're calling it "Shark Week" on TV here. Been watching it, at least, I have it on in the background. Some of those sharks have pretty bad looking mouths.
