I think the outcome was a good one and the split 45/55 was sufficient by a good majority (vs a 49/51) reflecting the will of the people.
Just saw Salmond has resigned and I see this as a good move too. Rather ends his role as a Separatist and by saying this I'm thinking he himself represents to most of Scotland a move to separate so being gone it will let the dust settle and everything and everybody can now move forward.
Personally I was quite happy to see the vote turn out this way. I think everybody together is definitely stronger.

Re: Only one week to go
Shame about the result,
Cameron made too many promises to Scotland to save the Union, the bottom line is they should have decided on how things are now and not on promises, if they were not happy with things the way they were then they should have voted ‘Yes’ to independence. All we are left with now is a divided UK and a disgruntled Scottish population ready to latch on to any excuse to moan about broken promises, whilst forgetting that the rest of us in the ‘Union’ were not given any opportunity to voice our opinion on whether or not we wished to keep giving Scotland a bribe to keep them happy. Many, including myself would have said “if after studying the various benefits and the pitfalls, you still think you can hack it alone, then do so” we (the rest of the UK) will certainly be better off, in particular in not having Scottish MP’s voting on purely English issues which they do now even though it does not happen in reverse. The biggest problem is that the Union has been effectively split by Salmond and his cronies who have exploited all of our differences instead of what made us better together, the damage in my opinion has already been done. I can see this thing dragging on and on with more and more resentment coming from England with more demands for the same treatment as that dished out to Scotland, had Scotland left the Union I think that the English regions in general would have prospered more as we would have demanded a less London centric government and more investment in the regions, as it is we are stuck with the same old status quo decided by a Scottish referendum that we had no opportunity to vote in, had we done so then the result may well have been very different as a majority of England voted for Scotland to go.

Re: Only one week to go
Whatever the pros and cons, the Scotish people decided their future and we should move on from that.
Unfortunately all the time Salmond is in the background spreading his vitriol, how can we hope to move forward. He is just stoking up animosity between the two camps and now, seeing how things are going, it would have been better if the Yes vote won the day.
Perhaps we should put a few more courses on hadrians Wall.
