The hibiscus was taken after a shower (Roatan), the Bouganvilla is just lovely (Mexico) and the last photo is from Aruba. The flower clusters were on a large bush planted in front of a Catholic church. I don't know what this flower is but it was definitely very lovely and the actual colours of each individual flower within the cluster ranged from the palest pink to a fairly robust purplish red. The flower clusters also hung. Ideas what this flower might be?

My Latest Favourite Flower Photos
Doesn't seem to matter where I go I always end up taking photos of flowers. These are three of my latest favourite flower photos. NONE of these varieties grow here. Wish they did as I'd be growing them all.

Re: My Latest Favourite Flower Photos
Two of my favourite flowers LLL are Hibiscus and Bougainvillaea, I have photos somewhere of three colour varieties, the Purple one plus a White and also a Yellow one. The last of your flowers I have no idea, but as I believe that most of the shrubs and flowers have been imported to the island then they could be from anywhere.

Re: My Latest Favourite Flower Photos
Was out back today cruising my garden. I have one dahlia that has a humungo bud almost ready to bloom. Am not sure why this particular dahlia has grown so large and strong so quickly and is ready to bloom but I can't wait and will get a photo of the flower soon as it emerges.
In the meantime all my dianthus or Pinks are out blooming and doing well

AND while they're not yet BLUE they will start to turn 'soon' and I'm really looking forward to seeing them blue-ing up.

Re: My Latest Favourite Flower Photos
This is my prize - a big RED peony! Love 'em but they don't last nearly long enough and this guy is so top heavy he or she is going to be bent over to the ground pretty soon.

And - if anybody knows - are ants really necessary in order for a peony to open?

In short no, it is the sticky coating on the bud that attracts them, but the bud would open without them anyway. The real benefit is that while they are seeking out the sticky sap that coats the bud they will also come across othe insects and pests and probable help the plant in that way, so urban mythare ants really necessary in order for a peony to open?

Ahh - a mythbuster!
Ants are always crawling all over peonies and I never really knew why. Just like I'm starting to see earwigs all around my dahlias! Don't like earwigs at all. Those pinchers PINCH!

Re: My Latest Favourite Flower Photos
Most of the shrubs on my bank are self sown evrgreen. Even the oak tree was just a sapling when we moved in and now after 45 years it is quite a mature tree. I have a yellow flowering evergreen that I have never bothered to identify. My mother in law used to call it a Seringa but, having worked in the rubber industry for 25 years, I knew Seringa to be one of the rubber plant species. I checked it today and it would appear to be a Hypericum. Very pretty yellow flowers but they don't last long. Here is the bush and a bloom.

Re: My Latest Favourite Flower Photos
Difficult one this Grandad, your flower is probably what you say it is, but on the subject of Seringas you are correct and there is the alternative name of Syringa and it’s more commonly known as a ‘Mock Orange’.
I knew I had seen it somewhere so nipped out into the front garden and sure enough I have one still in flower. They usually have yellow leaves after they mature, but green on new growth, the flowers are white and in little clusters with only four petals unlike your five and many stamens in the centre, they do have a perfume, but nothing like the smell of Oranges.

I've heard of Mock Orange but have never seen on in bloom. I was going to guess St. John's Wort on steroids!

Re: My Latest Favourite Flower Photos
Seems almost every year I end up growing a few geraniums. They're oldie tough flowers and I do love the red ones which I have growing in pots out front. These guys are are in the back of the house where they're loving to suck up full hot sun all day long.

I quite like the flowers cause of the length of time they do stay blooming (Unlike peonies which are dramatic but only for a few short days)

I agree LLL that geraniums or pelagoniums are old fashioned plants but,as you say, they bloom forever through the summer. They are also one of the easiest plants to 'slip' for next years plants. For many years I never bought new plants in spring and cultivated 30 or 40 new plants each year for the next spring. I don't do that any more.

Re: My Latest Favourite Flower Photos
My mom and dad bought 1 geranium once and, I'm sure, grew it into the 100's they had planted about their house each year. Always the same shade of red but that plant did grow each and every year producing red blooms that lasted forever.
Usually I go for the reds but this year I opted for this coral coloured one. They're relatively cheap here (6 plants for $5CDN) in flower so I'm probably not going to be too inclined to want to over winter them and go through all the gyrations of cutting slips and trying to keep them growing.
I do like the Martha Washington geraniums which have much showier flower but seems that increases the $$ of the plant too.
I also do quite like some of the more fragrant geraniums too. I haven't had them for a few years but I liked the ones I had when I had them.
I don't know which came first - the regular old old fashioned red geranium or the fragrant ones (which don't seem to have much of a flower) but probably not the Martha Washingtons.

LLL, the first thing that most cultivars lose is the smell, take the rose as a good example.

Roses are a sad story
I've never learned and always expect a fragrant rose but with many there is NADA ZIP ZILCH!

Re: My Latest Favourite Flower Photos
One of my favourite summer flowers are dahlias. Love 'em and all the different colours and varieties. Earlier this spring I planted 20 from some variety packs I bought at a local garden shop. Don't know what I'll get but am hoping for a few really neat dahlias that will be unique and different and in colours that will just POP!
This is my first dahlia in bloom. Quite a nice apricot colour. The bush is extremely robust and definitely going to be a keeper for next year.

Can't wait for all the other dahlias to get a move on and start flowering.
