I am beginning to wonder if Donald Trump has any style or class. On his current trip to the Middle East I have yet to see him with his jacket buttoned. Does he set out to look so scruffy. When in the presence os the immaculately attired sheikhs and princes in Saudi he looks positively untidy. Perhaps he has taken a lesson from Jeremy Corbyn on how to dress down.

I don't think it is too much to expect that heads of state should maintain a standardl of smart appearance, the majority do......

I hadn't noticed one way or another re: Trumps buttoning but if his jacket is open it is probably 'cause he is HOT!

Was talking to the Saudi guys here couple days ago and they were saying it was 28C at 4am and over 40C during the days. We were comparing to here where we FINALLY middle of the day in the sun hit 20C!!

I get your point Grandad and you'd think everybody would be suited up to the nines - BUT -and this is slightly off topic - "WE" (those of us in North America) do not have traditional costumes or outfits (for lack of another word coming to me) as does, for example Prince Phillip when he gets all duded out to appear formally in public.

Granted our military guys have uniforms to wear and they can be precise in what needs to be on them but as for the rest of us ....... what would be considered "formal wear" here? In Saudi Arabia there IS a standard of clothing. I know from the guys here that there is an escalating scale of who gets to have embroidery around the collar and down the front (grant it is white on white so you can't see it unless you get close), who gets to wear black (you'll note the King has a black over robe with gold whilst the Princes have less gold etc). The regular guys wear only white.

Same with their head gear (the ghutra). When they're wearing it formally it flows freely BUT you'll also see the guys with it tucked into the black gutra (the black band) in various ways to look sporty (and to keep cool and to keep it away from their face).

Anyway - my point is those of us here in Canada & USA don't really have traditional attire to wear when we're out formally

I am absolutely sure LLL, that the venues that DT entered were fully air-con. He should have been prepared for any discomfort, as most visitors do, by wearing suits of suitable fibres and easy fit. Whether there is a national dress or not in the US I thought he looked scruffy, arrogant and disrespectful. I hope he doesn't put his arm around the Queen on his upcoming state visit.
But as I said, that is the view of a grumpy old man who likes to see standards maintained.

Oh - I fully completely agree with you that anywhere he is at would be fully air conditioned and probably pre-set to a temperature that is optimal. Am also fully convinced that his clothes would be perfect for hot weather - BUT - are all those bullet proof vests he is wearing good in the hot weather?

I wasn't noticing that DT appeared scruffy as he appeared to me there as I've seen him here.

What I did like though was that Melanie did NOT cover her head and did wear outfits that were stylish and in many ways quite acceptable to the Arab world. I'm hoping many women in the Middle East see her, like her sense of fashion and start thinking about her fashion sense for them.

Yes, I too thought Melania looked both stunning and appropriate for the occasion. I guess my problem is that I don't like DT and see him as a volatile and unpredictable loose canon

Well re: Trump so far I haven't seen him do anything volatile OR contrary to US interests nor have I seen him expressing opinions that would run contrary to my own. If he wants to open call ISIS barbarians is that not true and is that really an insult to all other Arabs? Doubt it. They all hate ISIS too.

'Nuther example - If you want to compare his reception on arriving in Saudi Arabia - King came out to meet him vs Obama when nobody came out to meet him - that might be a clue as to how the world community sees Trump vs how they saw Obama (who did more to set back race relations than any other President). Trump went from there to Israel. I think he is pretty open that he was EVERYBODY on the same page.

Dunno - I think Trump is open to talking to everybody, his values seem pretty basic (granted he IS going to put the USA first), he IS Leading and what was the alternative? hilLIARy? with Bill and his predatory ways? Nah I think Trump is doing just fine
