Sport For All

Post by Grandad »

This weekend is probably the best of the year for sports followers.

Wimbledon reaches its finals today and tomorrow with Eugenie Bouchard already beaten by Petra Kvitova 6-3 6-0, in a disappointing 54 minute final. Easy money I say, £880,000 for the runner up and £1,760,000 for the winner. (Same prize money for the men which I consider grossly unfair :( )

F1 comes to Silverstone for all petrol heads (like me ;) ) The race is tomorrow.

Then there is Le Tour that started today from Harewood House, Leeds. Yorkshire has done a brilliant job in hosting the start of this grueling 3600 km tour. What has impressed me immensely, and hopefully the rest of all European viewers, is the stunning views of our largest county from the TV helicopter. Two more days in the UK then the tour moves over to France.

Finally, and not everyones choice ;) , the final two Football World Cup quarter finals in Brazil.

Sorry there is no chess or tiddlywinks but there must be something to please most of us, particularly those who enjoy getting a sore bum at the weekends.

AND AND AND - this weekend WE have the world famous Dragon Boat races!!! Not sure I'll be able to push my way through all the celebrities, paparazzi and TV news media to get down to see them racing. Will try AND I do apologize to Wimbledon, F1 and Le Tour for taking away from your crowds there but what can I say when we host an event the world comes! ;) ;) ;)

Actually an annual event here with teams coming from all over the Province. I'll try and get down to watch but so far today it is raining, grey and dreary and unless the sun cracks through the Dragons just won't see ME shivering on the shore.

I DO hope the weather improves LLL so that, hopefully, you can get some pictures. :up
Never mind the crowds, just push to the front. That's a lesson I learnt from the Russians on holiday. ;) :xx

Still raining. It actually poured all day long here so I didn't even go down to the waterfront. The races maybe went - dunno. All week long the weather was nice but today and tomorrow all that is predicted is rain rain and then some more rain.

Missed the Dragon Boat races entirely. Raining steady all weekend :( Was hoping to get some good photos of this annual event.
