Who'd be a dustman in Cairo?

Post by DJKeefy »

With mountains of rubbish towering over children and endless bin bags bulging from high-rise flats, these are the shocking images that show Cairo's 'Garbage City' - where thousands of Egyptians live amongst piles of stinking rubbish.

Manshiyat naser, or Garbage city, as it is known by locals, is a slum on the outskirts of Cairo, just a short drive away from luxury five star resorts.

But these shocking photos show a whole community which has been living in the slums for hundreds of years surrounded by rats and rotting rubbish.

How can that story possibly be true Keefy? after all it was in the Daily Mail and we all know that unless it is published in the Guardian it has no credibility whatsoever. ;)

What a way to live.......recycling garbage but if it has gone on for 100's of years then I guess those living in the area have adapted....... :(

Oh its true alright ive been there, well through it to see a Christian monument tother side of this same city, it was a few years ago, not many though about 3 i guess, and there are even more bags and in some parts where the Zabaleen live its very very dark, a horrid drive, the stench was appalling but once through the area itself the monument was stunning :)
