Just remember that all of Alexa skills and features are available IF you choose to use them, but none are compulsory.

I set up the voice messaging and it works fine. I was thinking LLL, if you get a Dot for the kids they will love just calling out "Alexa, call Grandma" (or whatever you are called in your daughter or SiL's phones)

I will use this function when Louis and the others get hooked up. I will also use it for music, questions, information, and maybe some Hive accessories; but that will probably be it.

I do think it is a smart and simple piece of kit. :up

Just to expand on the useful functions of Alexa. I think most people are just limiting usage to Music, Questions, and Information.

My #2 son has a Dot in the kitchen and they are using it for shopping list. When they see that something is out or low stock they just shout to Alexa to add items to the shopping list. These can then be read on his/her mobile phone when at the supermarket. Quite useful and convenient. :up

I do that all the time Grandad, I just keep adding stuff to my list and it sends it all to my mobile. I do the same with reminders especially if the appointment is weeks away, so I get her to remind me over several days prior. One of the most useful features that I use is the timer when I am cooking as I have a head like a sieve and would probably get distracted and forget what was in the oven.

I saw on FB a post from a gf down in the states. Says she asked her Alexa to take down all the Christmas ornaments but is still waiting for her to respond! ;)
