I am not aware whether we have any Chinese people as members or 'lookers in' but if we have, I wish them 'Kunghei fatchoy' as they enter the year of The Rooster.
We were in Hong Kong some years ago on the first day of their New Year. On the evening before, Victoria Park was packed with traders selling all manner of decorations and toys and in particular many flower stalls. There was a great but somewhat hectic atmosphere in the park. The next day our hotel was full of Chinese families and large family groups in the restaurants.
Next day we went over to Kowloon on the ferry to see the new year carnival procession and then on a boat in the harbour to watch the firewors.
Very happy memories....
As a PS: M & S foodstores have a special just for today of one of their 'Dine in For £10' offers. No wine with this one but you get 2 main dishes and 3 side dishes for a tenner. We got the offer plus two large bottles of Chinese beer so we will be talking Cantonese this evening.........But......Kunghei fatchoy gets a bit boring but that is the extent of our knowledge of the language

The mention of Chinese beers Grandad reminded me of this little ditty that all the squaddies stationed in Kowloon would sing to the tune of 'Island in the Sun' by Harry Belafonte
"This is my island in the sun, built for me by the Englishman"
"Oh island of Hong Kong, where I've been for too bloody long"
"All my days I will live in fear, of your San Miguel and your Tiger beer"
I could just do with a single malt and a fag. I haven't drunk alcohol since 18th August 1991 and I gave up smoking about 8 years ago ................... still want both
MD, I stopped smoking on 13 October 1986 and have not touched a fag since. Funny how that date stays in your mind.
We are very modest drinkers and usually just have a glass of wine or beer with our evening meal. Occasionally a G & T late afternoon. But for wine we are totally red drinkers now. Gone off white, too acid, so it's Merlot or Shiraz mostly.
Ditto the G & T plus the Merlot & Shiraz never bother with it at mealtimes though unless I am out for dinner, I enjoy mine after I settle down for the evening, usually after about 9pm
