Well i made it

Post by bigken »

Well I made it to the big 50 this week :( and as a treat my good lady took me back up north for a 3 night break at Carnoustie. We went up on NYD stopping off at the Kelpies on the way up, Rosslyn Chapel on the way back home and a trip up to Dunnottar Castle ( was on my to see list after seeing Kiya picture) while we was there. I enjoyed the lot, the little hotel called The 19th Hole was lovely and the food was bang on. Sorry for the amount off pictures from Dunnottar, but I found the views are stunning and as the weather was good to us :) . As for the Chapel, it to was stunning, the carvings inside, the history around the place ( and I thought they built it for The Da Vinci Code :P )

Can’t have too many pictures BK, glad that our Kiya inspired you to visit the castle, great brooding images, well done. Those Kelpie statues are a marvel and must be a lovely sight to see in the evening against the sky. Although named after a mythical shape-shifting water spirit of the Lochs and rivers, I believe that these are more to do with the canal system and the horses that pulled the barges, did you visit the ‘Falkirk Wheel’?

Fancy you thinking they built Rosslyn Chapel for The Da Vince Code, you Wally. ;) It was supposedly built by The Knights Templar, but not really proven and probably just in a similar style. You were lucky to see it without the corrugated structure that they put over it because it was in such bad state of repair, at least the film fame allowed them to put a modern waterproof roof over the old one.

Awe love all your photos BK, is your legs not killing you after all the climbing steps at Dunnnottar Castle ? mines did for a fortnight ;)

Now I am full of envy you being at Rosslyn Chapel, it's been on my bucket list for ages, far to long !

I guess you recognised The Apprentice Pillar & now know the history/story of that & what happened ?

It's really gorgeous inside, like an open book...............I've even read that supposedly Jesus Christ's head is there in Rosslyn Chapel but, I do find that hard to believe.

Great photos , keep em coming :) :)

I forgot to add, I couldn't help laughing you thinking the chapel was built for Da Vinci Code ;) :)

What fantastic photos BK. That latest camera is certainly working well :up

And the chapel, Gothic just like my cathedral, looks a wonderful building. The landscape in picture#6 is my pic of the bunch. I love it :up

The chapel was very interesting, the history around the place, the way they put a steel roof over it for years to dry it out, how they painted all the inside back in the 50's to try and protect it from water and ended up taking the sharpness out off the carvings. Yes Kiya there is a carving of JC on the roof, another of a angel playing the pipes, even one of the apprentice who carved the pillar and the master who killed him. They wouldn't let you take pictures inside :|
