Re: What are you doing today (Number 2)
I had a checkup at the Doc's today - he looked at the hospital site and found that I went on the "list" for the second knee replacement last April. Still on it of course.
I said in passing that I really wanted to cycle, but had lost the strength and he suggested Pedal Power a charity which encourages cycling for all abilities. I went to their site and fell in love with a trike which is battery assisted.
Long story short I'm going for an assessment tomorrow afternoon - I'm so excited at the idea of improving my muscle power and getting out of the house. I only live a few hundred yards from Sofia Park and love the idea of spending time there, I could go shopping in the city, all kinds of possibilities.

Re: What are you doing today (Number 2)
No particular brand as such Grandad, it is completely new, but I specified all the separate items and they have put it all together for me (it was cheap enough labour wise) so that saved me a job. After replying to this I will be hopefully adding the finishing touches program wise and checking everything over and transferring my data back on the new HD. At the moment it is still in the box so I need to pack away all my old stuff apart from monitor, keyboard, mouse etc. and get it installed on my desk. Once I am up and running I will give you some more details, but basically it just replaces my existing machine with hopefully a few improvements along the way.
@ MD, that sounds really great as it will get you out and about and improve your fitness no end, now all you need is a camera

Re: What are you doing today (Number 2)
I'm at a truck stop in the middle of nowhere waiting for a probably greasy brekkie of eggs & toast with my 16 foot moving truck being laughed at (with) by a bunch of truckers with BIG rigs......OK - so I can't parallel park it (one of them did for me out of sympathy or pity dunno which). Didn't figure I'd fit through a McD's golden arches with it ..... bloody hell being a real crap last few days!!! Haven't had a shower in two days - Ohhh whew - and.....well MORE to come re: the MOVE from H*LL!

If I get one of these battery operated trikes I shall call it Tigger, because I expect Fun! Fun! Fun!
I've been looking at the specification on trikes for sale and they not only have a display showing how fast you are going but basically your performance and if you are improving or not - wonderful for a competitive type like me.
PS I've found a folding model as well - I could take it on my hols!
PPS Inshallah I'm fit enough to use one.

Re: What are you doing today (Number 2)
Am home - WHEW!!! And your convoy guess was a good one.....
Soooo - I went down and had ordered (if you order a truck) a Rent a Truck with a 16' long box from a Company that deals in Rental trucks. I'd also hired a Driver plus 1 other man to help load it all (yeah right!) So the driver appeared and brought the truck to the house late Monday in prep for loading Tuesday and driving north. Tuesday comes and nobody appears. I call the Company and they have no idea where anybody is so I wait and wait, call the company back and back and well nobody seems to know anything about anybody not showing up and, the very BEST - they have no more drivers!
Not to be daunted or too panic'd I figured OK what to do what to do ..... I HAD to get everything onto the truck and off the property. Soooo I said to myself - where do men hang out? Maybe it is just the way I think but up I go to the local bar (it was early in the day however American Bars are not nice places very unlike Pubs) and offered $$ if I could get two guys to come with me and load the furniture into truck. I got 2 takers (who were sober) and by late afternoon we had the truck loaded.
NOW it all had to be driven north along with my car ...... so ...... I again offered and taking a HUGE leap of FAITH "I" opted to drive the truck, let the one man drive my car and his friend drove their truck. My rule was NO STOPPING and they didn't and did seem reasonable types but it was so late the Storage place was closed (closes at 9pm)
I can't stress enough how much I had the Interstate Highways. You're going 70mph one minute and then just crawling along the next seeing the most horrendous accidents. Don't think I've ever driven over body parts but I'm sure I've driven through blood.
I never intended to bring my stuff back to Canada in the Rental truck so I'd rented a Storage Locker just south of the Border which is where it was all getting dropped.
We did get ME + car to a truck stop just before the Border (about 20 miles south) and after I got properly parked (I was so tired and stressed I actually just asked one of the truckers if he'd parallel my truck in with all the others so I could pull out forward in the sleep areas.) I slept in it and yeah - the eggs in the restaurant when it opened were pretty greasy but at least the place had wifi.
Same dilemma about unloading. I got the phone number off the Internet of the local Tribe office and was able to get two guys to meet me at the storage locker and they unloaded and stored it for me. It was actually pretty quick getting it all unloaded off the truck and the Storage Locker I'd reserved was an exterior one. I guess bringing stuff down from a truck is easier than shoving it up. Dropped the truck off, got them guys to drop me off back to my car and I beat feet for the border.
I actually had the truck reserved until tomorrow but I'm done. Done with moving, done with lifting boxes - I'm just done but I do have to admit I was super lucky. Am not one to take risks but ?? What to do, what to do? It was almost the best laid plans. I have NO idea where the Driver + helper went or are
NOW as I go back and forth I'll bring stuff each trip. To bring an "international truck" across the Border and on the ferry is so ridiculously expensive it is prohibitive and arriving here there is nowhere to drop the truck so I'd then have to take it back and cross the Border with Custom inspections - UGH.
Now to sleep. Don't think I've been this tired since forever ........

I take my hat off to you LLL, in the circumstances you coped very well indeed
although I am sure that you realise that in many ways you were really lucky, especially in hiring unknown people, anyway it all turned out OK for you and you don't need to do it again.

No Horus, I just go walkabout on here, 17 hct full of all sorts of trees and the neighbours empty fields, so many trees and dead branches - fig wood is good to light the fire and easy to snap.

Re: What are you doing today (Number 2)
But LLL, am I missing something here? After all your trials and tribulations all you have done is moved your furniture to a storage warehouse near the north US border. You still need to make multiple ferry trips in, I assume, more smaller hire vans to move your stuff into Canada. All seems to be stacking up a considerable cost. Would it have been more cost effective to hire a removals company to take the lot direct to Canada in one hop?
But as I said, I may be missing a point somewhere???

Re: What are you doing today (Number 2)
Thursday is usually shopping day BUT.....
Two weeks ago I had a fall backwards on to the block paved drive. I was loading something into the car boot and had not fully opened it and hit my head sending me straight back onto my derriere Subsequent pain I assumed was bruising but as there was no improvement I saw the doc this morning. He gave me a good going over front and back and from the pain pinpoints he assumes that I may have damaged my coccyx and possibly my right pubic rani.
Anyhow we did the shopping and then after lunch I went to the hospital for X-ray. I arrived at 1.40, there were just two people waiting and I was done and away by 2.10, by which time the waiting room was full....good timing.
I am doing a small alteration in the kitchen so will progress that this PM and then the highlight of the evenings TV will be the excellent drama series 'Line of Duty'. So a more busy than usual Thursday for me.
