Re: What are you doing today?
Had planned to do a job in the kitchen today but Mrs G has booked my taxi services this pm so I have postponed the kitchen job just in case I run into problems and run out of time.
Highlight this evening, Moules Frittes (sounds better than mussels and chips
) at our local seafood restaurant. Wednesday evening special, eat as much as you like for £10.50, with different flavour sauces.

Re: What are you doing today?
I treated myself to a "Billy no mates"
Sunday lunch at the weekend at our local carvery, not bad at just under £9 a head, but a tad disappointed by the amount of meat being carved, I do not expect huge amounts, but this guy could have done cataract surgery the slices were so thin.
It used to be quite a good place, but although the meal was OK I thought the value side had gone down considering what you got for your money, it was worth more like £6 IMO.
I need to do small job in the bathroom and replace the filling valve on the toilet cistern, I could just replace the washers, but to be honest its just as easy to replace the whole thing as fiddle about replacing washers. I was going today, but the weather is awful, wet cold and miserable, so I may just leave it until I go shopping tomorrow and call in the plumbers merchant en route.

Re: What are you doing today?
As mentioned earlier, went to Chapmans last evening for All U Can Eat Moules with skinny fries. Three flavours of sauce available; traditional mariniere with white wine and onion, another with leak and cream sauce, and a very tasty mild curry that was really good. We each had three bowls.
With some olives as appetizers, a glass of wine, bottle of water and plenty of bread to soak up the sauce it worked out at £17 a head which was very good value and an enjoyable evening with our daughter (son in law was unwell and didn't come), grandson and his girlfriend.

They also do a lobster evening so might have to have a go at that.

Re: What are you doing today?
Glad you enjoyed it
I am not really much of a fan of Mussels as I find the shells a bit crunchy, but I will join you for the Lobster

Yeah - not only does Grandad tell us he SHOWS us!
Now I'm really envious too and would love to chow down on a few bowls of mussels or ANY seafood
I had sushi for lunch today made with crab but somehow now that I'm viewing a bowl of mussles I'm hungry again!

Re: What are you doing today?
Today i shall be packing for my egypt visit next week. I have a large sports bag, and so far i have a pile of socks and knickers and 9 white t shirts in it
I shall sort out what i need to add, although i have to factor in a weekend in london before 3 weeks in Luxor, so a few thermals will be added to the t shirts and jeans. As Luxor is on the turn of the weather change, i have to add a few light fleeces just in case.
I shall be trying to do this whilst manning the desk and the front door of the kennels, so i envisage lots of running up and down the stairs while i try and multi task

Re: What are you doing today?
Clear blue sky, 26 in the shade, no wind, top and shorts weather. Been trying to weed but as they are as tall as me gave up, I shall wait for the farmer and his tractor. Cut a load of dandelions for Glory and hung my duvet on my sunbed frame to air. Have 2 crates of big oranges to juice, not now, its siesta time - - - -

Re: What are you doing today?
I shall be checking in regularly H, as I tend to keep my tablet in my bag so i can be online and in touch with family and friends. As we are staying in the winter palace this time, and there is the african film festival in Luxor at the same time, I am expecting it to be a bit busier than usual. I just hope i dont have to rant at some prima donna egyptian film star by the pool like i have done in the past

Re: What are you doing today?
Robbo, although we will be interested in your feed back from Luxor we decided today, under pressure from family, to give Luxor a miss right now but will think about it again later in the year.
I have today made all my bookings for a return trip to Croatia early May. Flights (BA), hotel 5* Valmar President, and taxis to and from Gatwick, airport transfers from Dubrovnik airport, plus travel insurance so everything sorted in a couple of hours.
We stayed at this hotel in May 2012 when it was 4*. It was very good then but it has now been upgraded to 5*.

Re: What are you doing today?
Geez - Robbo off to Luxor + SUN, Grandad booking for Croatia + SUN and me scrubbing floors today in prep for the carpenter guy to arrive (tomorrow) to put up a bank of cabinets in the garage ....... SOMETHING WRONG with this.
Sunday is the carpenter (cabinets), Monday is the Electrician (fan in the bedroom + new light switches) and Wednesday the Plumber to put in a new Loo. Once the Parade of the Trades is done I'm going to put my mind towards where I might want to go (even if just OUT for a cuppa!)

Re: What are you doing today?
Well, I had left the geraniums as they looked healthy.......until the recent frosts which killed them off. Should have put them under cover. All ripped out this morning along with the browning ferns and the remains of the autumn leaves. All in the landfill bin for Wednesday collection. Had to hide them under some houshold waste bags or the 'jobsworth' binmen will not empty claiming that is garden waste and must go in the green bin. (I won't have a green bin) Bl**dy Hitlers, who pays their wages

Re: What are you doing today?
@Grandad - I mix my yard waste (which is very little) in with my regular garbage. I have to hide it too as the garbage guys will refuse to take your garbage here IF they see any bit of yard waste. No mechanism here to pick up yard waste. All homeowners have to truck away their own yard waste or compost it BUT our garbage guys will pick up household compost ..... go figure. Apparently yard grass doesn't compost while a pineapple rind will
When I've had little bits I've shoved it out in the garbage. It'll rot just like the rest of my garbage and I figure I am paying their wage for picking it up. HERE though the garbage guys have been known to rip open your black garbage bags to make sure your garbage IS garbage. The city "prefers" you buy CLEAR garbage bags so the garbage men can SEE what they're picking up which IMO is ridiculous!

Re: What are you doing today?
The joys of staying in the winter palace with a pile of prima donna actors and luvvies is that they up the heating of the pool so the poor lambs dont get cold when they swim. I have 6 days where it will be warm enough to swimJayway wrote: Robbo, please take photos and is it warm enough to swim in the pool ?
I am naturally cold all the time, so while its apparently quite nice by day, its still chilly by night. I have packed several fleeces just in case
