It is fitting that Richard III should be buried in Leicester Cathedral. I believe the nearest we have to a king being buried in Canterbury is the tomb of The Black Prince who would have become Edward IV except that he died before his father, Edward III, and the throne eventually went to the the former Prince of Wales (The Black Princes) son Richard II.

All interesting stuff Kiya and programmes like Wolf Hall help to make medieval history more real. On the scale of things I don't regard medieval history as ancient. After all, it is just 20 or 30 generations back which is just a moment in time when we can all easilly trace 5 or 6 generations back from just talking to our older relatives.

Very fitting that this should happen, he was an important part of English history and also a King, so his remains should be given a proper burial and his final resting place will become another part of our rich heritage for future generations to visit.

I'm really looking forward to watching this, a great part of history & finally Richard III getting his rightful burial fit for a king.

You know your history Grandad & yes it isn't so far back when you count the generations.

But why are they not to bury him along side his Queen Anne

We just started getting "Mrs Brown" on our TV here!!! Not that Mrs Brown's Boys is on par with a documentary but just saw it last night (Should have marked down the time and channel too as now I'll have to search for it Saturday night-wise)

Actually, I don't think he was a good person. Many more humble people do deserve recognition, so I wouldn't have wasted time and money on him, but will continue to support today's heroes through the charity box.

I watched all of it with interest & read many books on the subject

An interesting take on him MD, why is it that you think he was particularly bad? It would seem now that he was much maligned by history and Shakespeare although there are a few variations on this, did he or did he not have anything to do with the ‘Prince’s in the Tower’ or was it just another political move by his supporters to eliminate any future claims to the throne?. Also his own claim was just as valid as Henry’s I suppose if you look at the convoluted way in which we arrived at any of them claiming kingship and to be fair he did actually fight for his right to rule and was killed at Bosworth for his troubles, so I suppose as a one time king of this country we owe him a place in history and a memorial.

As I believe it, his 'crimes' are unproven due to lack of evidence But this was 15th century history and at that time there were not well defined successions and very often progression was achieved by dubious and devious means.

He was a King and I am happy that he finally received an appropriate internment in Leicester Cathedral. I too give to charities MD but I don't think we can compare the needs of todays charities with the 'Uncharitable' behaviour of our medieval ancestors. Different times called for different means.

But the Richard III story seems to have moved the archaeologists into action. There are plans to start digging a school playing field, just a few miles from where I live, in an attempt to find the remains of King Stephen, grandson of William The Conqueror, who died in 1154. Digging starts this week so another one to 'Watch this Space'

Each to their own, I love history but I know myself so well that I have to leave it pretty much alone.
It would easily be totally consuming of all my energies and time. At my age I have very little of either I couldn't bear the frustration of knowing that I would never learn enough to satisfy me in the-time allowed - but then who does?

There is no evidence to date yet that Richard III killed his nephews, " or they were even dead before him ) any ways they were illegitimate when Richards' brother Edward IV married Elizabeth Woodville in secret as he was still married to his first wife Eleanor Talbot....so Richard had every right to be next in line.

I tend to believe it was on Henry VII that ordered the killing of the princes' or more so his mother Margaret Beaufort , she was determined has son was to be king.

Looking forward to any new findings the Richard III Society will find about the "The Prince's in The Tower"

That's the one H, it is apparently recorded that he was buried in the grounds of Faveraham Abbey as were Queen Matilda and their son Eustace. The abbey no longer exists and was demolished by Henry VIII. Queen Elizabeths School now occupies the site but archaeologists believe that they have been able to map the area and the playing field is the most likely location for the burial site.

Bebedict Cumberbatch it seems is able to claim to be a descendent of Richard III, I wonder who they will find as a descendent of Stephen? All a PA job I reckon but I am a bit of a cynic

I watched a very interesting series last week on UK tv. Standing with Stones. Does anyone remember the childrens tv series about the Standing Stones of Avebury ? ? I am trying to find it on Youtube or somewhere to watch again. Oh , LLL I watch all of Mrs Browns Boys on Youtube when I need to hysterically giggle . . . .
