@ Grandad - no you spoiled nothing. ;) Honest you didn't. It is funny that you know how the world turns out before I Do. I just want you to make sure that if the SH*T is HITTING THE FAN that THAT INFO you get to me first ;) ;) ;) so I can vacate and prep!

On the Sochi thing what they do actually do here is - the TV Announcer will verbally say they have the most up to date results BUT they are not going to 'talk' about them they're going to show the results on the TV screen. If you want to know the results then you can read them but if you don't want to know then don't look at the screen. I'm a 50/50 that I see who has won what anyway :)

AND I'm not following anything close enough nor am I cheering anything loud when I actually see them win. The fun for me is just watching them burn down a mountain at 85mph or jump wearing skates higher than I can climb!!

Just teasing and pulling your leg!

We must be able to use that 'delay' to our advantage LLL. Can't we rig the lottery and get rich quick?

BTW, how many hours behind us are you. Is it 7 or 8 hours? If so I suppose that you don't get any of the Olympics 'live' :(

I'm not sure of the exact time difference. Am not sure I'm actually getting any of the Olympics 'live.' Definitely enjoying what I am seeing. Watched some of the Luge today which is an ok event but don't get it.......laying flat on my back on a board and zipping down a tube at a bizzillion mph FEET FIRST!

No not me, not on a good day, not on a bad day, not on a sunny day, not on a grey day - no sireeeee.........NOT MOI! :td :td :td

Putting on my 'snappers' hat, there have been some superb images of the contestants, particularly mid air ski jumpers and snowboarders, in their brightly coloured outfits. Like this one of Jenny Jones, so far our sole medalist with a bronze. :up

That is a really good photo and it has the "Bokah" effect? I think that is what H called it.

Have you ever seen the size the lens those Sports Photographers have? So large they even need props to hold up the lens. They definitely have to be on the mark with watching and have their fingers ready on the trigger to be able to snap soon as they figure the subject is in view 'til the subject is out of view.

Am hearing from my friends in Canada, who have been literally glued to the TV re: hockey that the Canadian women's just beat the USA (which is always big news in Canada)

I am definitely hooked on the curling. The more I watch it the more I appreciate the skill and strategy of the game. Both UK teams are doing well but Jennifer Jones the Canadian Skip has an accuracy rating of 98%. That is something else :up

I like watching the girls but then I have always liked watching the girls ;) ;)

The youngest daughter at one point took up curling and quite liked it. We also had an office team and while it seems rather easy it actually does take lots of work and skill. In Canada there are Curling Rinks everywhere. I've sometimes met up with different friends to sit of a Saturday or Sunday morning watching the curling over coffee from the sidelines.

Canada is starting to lag in the medals. Was watching the figure skating teams (short set? I think they call them) and watched the German team fall TWICE yet managed to score higher than Canada knocking them out of the medals :x :x

Not that I'm at all biased but Canada DID skate BETTER than the German team.

On another note the Russian team was MAGNIFICENT! They really and truly did skate phenomenally well. Their routine was perfect.

Not sure what is on today but am enjoying the different venues.

Last night was mostly watching, as it was all that was being shown on TV, the mens ice skating. All those guys definitely must train for more hours than I can wrap my mind around and the Japanese young fellow set personal and world record. He was terrific.

Just as I was heading to bed so I didn't really watch more than a couple minutes they switched over to Men's Curling. I think the team they were showing was from Sweden (am not exactly sure as I'm only identifying this from the flag on their shirt) but they sure definitely had snazzy jazzy pants on! White shirts but super duper jazzy pants! They were definitely quite serious about their sweeping and brushing. The face expressions were more than serious.

Seems the weather about Sochi is getting quite balmy! Not exactly what Winter Olympics officials want to hear!

We have never and could never claim to be a Winter Sports country. In the 90 years since the first Winter Olympics in 1924 we had only won 9 golds....until today....that total is now 10 thanks and congratulations to Lizzy Yarnold in the ladies skeleton. We need another bronze and a silver to equal our 1924 best 'medal haul' in Chamonix. We still have time.
GO TEAM GB

[bold]Go TEAM GB!!![bold]

Hopefully you'll get an increased medal count! Getting medal, IMO, is good for the country. I think Olympian athletes are, for the most part, very good role models for the youth of a country.

The good news, our girls have got through to the curling semi-finals. :up

The bad news, they play Canada (who have won ALL their 9 round robin matches) on Wednesday. :( ;)

Nah - not bad news but it IS going to be a great game!

The Nordic countries are definitely doing real well in these Olympics. I thought Canada would do better but am thinking we're not doing too bad overall.

Whatever the result tomorrow, we will enjoy the contest with our Canadian cousins. :up ;)

Our mens team beat Norway this morning in a play off to get into the semis. Our skips' last stone was something very special to score two and win.

I think what I like about curling is the strategy. You have to think well ahead, a bit like chess really.

Canada is doing OK LLL, but with such a large team I guess that expectations at home are for a higher finish.

We have a friend from the Netherlands and she is SO chuffed that in total medals 'Her Little Country' is second against all the big boys like Germany, Russia, USA and Norway. But they DO have plenty of opportunity to perfect their speed skating

Canada sends lots of athletes to the summer Olympics too but I don't think we have much expectation to win but for reason we seem to have wrapped up lots of national pride in being able to do well in the winter. Given the weather we SHOULD be doing well in the winter Olympics and given the number of athletes we sent (over 200 - I 'think 222) we should be getting medals!

Hopefully I can find the curling match on TV here and watch it. The strategies are interesting and going to be a good match. Lots of eyes in Canada are going to be watching it :up :up

I just heard an interesting statistic about the Netherlands following my comment about their speed skating.

Since the winter games started in 1924, Netherlands have won a total of 106 medals, 101 of which have been for speed skating. Frozen dykes and canals must help

That is a pretty impressive stat re: Netherlands. When I was a kid and lived in a frozen winter wasteland I had skates strapped onto my feet at the age of 3 and was shoved out onto the ice. The local Fire Dept would shovel off the snow from their water pond, put out burn barrels and host evening skates. All the tennis courts got flooded and everybody was out there skating circles. THEN CAME HOCKEY!

Lots more skating in eastern Canada than on the Island were I live now so I do believe just growing up with skates on your feet would definitely help you win medals in Olympics. Would at least vet out the better and faster skaters too.
