Sochi Competitions - Ice Dance

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

As this is one of my most favourite competitions in winter Olympics I'm particularly glued to the TV watching. I know absolutely nothing about the sport and always find the names for the jumps cute - Competitor So n So just did a triple lutz double saukau - or whatever the jump names are. Really must take years of practice to get to competition level.

Costumes and the music make this event for me too :up :up

And the new Team Event this year looks interesting. At least if one member has a bad competition there is still a chance that the others will do well and all the team could end up with a medal.

It was 30 years this Friday that Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won our one and only Ice Dance gold for their Bolero routine in Sarajevo. It was SO momentous that we are still remembering the occasion and it has given Jayne and Chris a very good living ever since.

The names Torvil and Dean are very well known here too. They kinda set a pretty high bar for all others to follow.

All the ice dancers always make it seem so easy and effortless. Never figured out how they can do that many twirls and not get dizzy.

She was terrific. Russia should be extremely proud of her. Her skating is excellent. Am sure she will be into multi medals and is giving all the other skaters lots to be concerned about! Terrific sport!!! :) :up
