Hugo Chavez passed this past week after a long fight with ill health, cancer. I haven't studied this man or followed his career but I can see that some countries absolutely love him while others see him as a less than desireable figure and others seem to have mixed feelings about him.
I can say that my only knowledge of him comes via my trips to the Commonwealth of Dominica (NOT Dominican Republic) where people love him as he gave this country health care. Sure he had the oil wealth to do this but it was a no strings attached gift. Can also say the USA hated Chavez and saw him as a threat to their nation.
Opinions? Thoughts? Was Chavez good or evil?

Re: Passing of Hugo Chavez
If you judge the man by his friends then he was no friend of the West, on the other hand he did seem to have improved the lot of some of his people if not all of them.

Re: Passing of Hugo Chavez
Again have never been a follower of him other than to know that he gave mega health resources to other poorer countries in the Caribbean. He also apparently had CITGO which gave low income people in the USA cheaper fuel. Apparently this really (ahem) upset some in the USA. HOW this came about I dunno - only saw it on a news clip after he passed.
