Lockerbie Bomber Dies

Am seeing on the TV News Ticker that the Lockerbie Bomber has passed.

There is compassion and then there is compassion and - well - I feel more for the families of all those he took than I do for the fact that this man was dying of cancer and was in the last few remaining (as it turned out) months of his life. Have to say I was horrified when he got to return to his loved ones ostensibly as he was 'near death' which actually turned out not to be the case in that he didn't have one or two days left to hang on he actually had months and months......regardless.....this man committed an atrocity against humankind. I am not of a mind that 'we' need to show him compassion and return him to his country and loved ones for his final days. I feel sad/bad that he had cancer and was terminal but the only feeling for him is a normative one I would feel when anybody shares the news they have cancer and is terminal. I just don't see how this outweighs his crime(s) and is causative for him to be released from prison and returned.

Am I wrong? Is forgiveness or whatever you want to call it better than holding somebody accountable for their actions no matter what? And how do we 'make it whole' for the families of those whose life he terminated?

No doubt his victims families would have relished the opportunity to spend a last couple of years with their loved ones, a chance he denied them, but his family were given.

I was never convinced of his guilt on the flimsy-est of evidence.

Never believed a word of the set-up and I am happy they let him go home. In my opinion Lockerbie was just a preview of 9/11, one of the grandest set-ups. Dont get me started - - -

All it says in my opinion is that he was set up for political reasons and welcomed back to Libya with enthusiasm and almost open gratitude for being a pawn set up in the first place. Al Megrahi and the compensation paid to relatives of the victims were a small price to pay for Libya to find its way back on to the international scene.

I spent a portion of my life working in a sector that was created as a direct result of this incident and there are many things that are not made public for all sorts of security reasons. As in all these cases the speculation will still abound and continue to do so simply because the policy of all governments is not to comment on any speculation as to do so can often jeopardise sources of information or the methods and technology by which it was obtained. We may not like it, but it is what keeps us safe most of the time, so as in all conspiracy cases it will continue to run until the official declassified information is released at some time in the distant future, although some sensitive parts may still be deleted even then. So now after his death we can no doubt look forward to a fresh glut of speculation in our newspapers and from armchair pundits who quite frankly have even less evidence to support their case than that produced to convict him.
