Keefy, you were posting as I was editing my post. Can you help with part 2 please?

And....is there a 'Like' button?

Hepzi, the reason you keep seeing a flashing light in the 'Congratulations' thread is because the poster was delted as it was spam.
I have added another post to that thread, can you go and read it to see if that gets rid of your problem?

I don't understand. The OP was Kiya. Surely it shouldn't matter who the last poster was once the thread is read and closed the light should go out!

(Can you tell - I'm doing all my practicing on here ready for the Grand Opening of the New Blue! :) )

Bye the way, so glad I didn't eject you! :ks

Some sort of glitch, because it was deleted before you had chance to read it I suppose. As I said, go back and read my post and see if the problem goes away.

Would Keefy or Horus please explain to me how to upload a video and how to add it to a post. What file size limits are there and what file types are acceptable.

This may have been mentioned elsewhere but I cannot find it.
Thanks

You can upload: mpeg, mpg or wmv (windows media files) or 3gp, mov, mp4 or qt (quicktime media files) the problem is that the file can be no bigger than 5 meg, so it would have to be a very small movie file.

The best way (for bigger files) is to upload your videos to youtube (that's how most sites work to keep the bandwidth down) and then use the youtube BBCode tags to show your video.

As Keefy has said Grandad and the file would have to be very small. The actual inserting into the post is quite easy, although Keefy made a change to something that messed mine up, ;)

If anything is after the ID number then it messes the showing of the video and just shows a link. so just delete anything after the ID: &feature ect etc etc etc to leave like the below example:

Code: Select all

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5Y5j_Sdub8
Then add the YouTube BBCode

Code: Select all

[YouTube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5Y5j_Sdub8[/YouTube]
Which will produce:

[youtube][/youtube]

We did have a BBCode that accepted any kind of link from youtube, but it would not show full screen so I opted for the one we have now.

Grandad, this is the gist of it:
When you upload a YouTube video link you need to copy the URL at the top of the page when the video is playing and not the link or embedded link below the video as you did before.

So as an example I will use my first Petra video which would have the following page URL:

To add this to your post first decide with your cursor at which place it will be inserted.
Now click the YouTube button at the top of your post.
This should now be inserted into your post [YouTube][/YouTube]
Now paste your copied YouTube URL between the middle set of brackets [YouTube]HERE[/YouTube]

The only thing you have to do is now is to delete everything that you copied from the & onwards, so my link would look like this when finished.
[youtube][/?youtube]

I have inserted a ? mark to stop the link displaying in this example.

Now, l know a number of you lot on here know me, and its late at night, I have been away for a week or so, l read the above last statement from Keefy here, can make no sense of it what so ever, and whats more, have been told to re-divert to this section, as our usual doss house has been infestered with cockroaches, and l'll tell you something else, for nothing, it seems to me that there is a whiff of Jeye's fluid about this joint.

Seems to me that the landlord has bought a big tin of magnolia emulsion, or perhaps distempa, and given the place a one coat wonder. Anyhow where were we. Oh yer when will the paint be dry at the old den?

P.S. Thanks Horus for letting us all kip here for the night, you should really show up on L4U sometimes, some of us miss you. Anyone seen Jewel?

Thank you A4, if you lot were more friendly then maybe I would. ;) We used the distemper to clean the place up and make it look brighter, wait until you see your old doss house on the Blue side, nothing like the old Hamees your used to, more like the Sonesta at the start of the season. :P
Anyway no doubt you will all be over here in the next few days asking how your new forum works.

Horus wrote:JoJo, at the very top of the main page below the Egypt4U logo, you will see the Options button, click the little downward pointing arrowhead and you will have several options. Best to start with ‘View Unread Posts’ then after that just click the ‘View New Posts’ option, each time you visit.

PS Sorry I missed your birthday petal, Mwah! :ks JLU.
Thank you Horus I've found it! JLU too x

OK, so this may just be me as usual and I haven't trawled through all of the other posts ......... but, each time I visit nearly all of the topics are flashing whether or not they have been posted on since my last visit. Usually I would only look at the ones with a new posting as I don't want to spend hours trawling through old topics. I know I can click the top thingy and just see the new posts, but is that the only way as they show posts to all things like politics and religion that I steer well clear of. I'm missing new things because I can't be bothered to go through everything ?

Phantom, there are quite a few ways you can limit what you want to read. First off after you read the forum, make sure you are on the ‘Board Index’ page then go to the very bottom and click the ‘Mark Forums Read’ button. If you do this each time, then it will only show the new posts the next time you use the site and if you just click the ‘View New Posts’ option after clicking the ‘View Post Options’ button at the top, all you will see are the new posts. You do not have to read any sections you don’t like and if you click the ‘Mark Forums Read’ button those sections unread posts will also go the next time you visit so it should not be hard to quickly check out the forum when you visit.

You can also click on that little Orange coloured button at the top right of the page and it will give you the latest posts, you can then click on the topic you want to read and it will take you to it. To be honest once you start using the various buttons you will quickly find your way around the new forum design and be able to skip all over the place with no trouble, its not difficult, its just unfamiliar.

Just to add to what Horus said..

Only use the orange coloured button on the right if you have an ATOM/RSS reader, thats all it is for, it sends live feeds to your ATOM/RSS reader. (some browsers have one built in) if you dont have a ATOM/RSS reader and click the button it will show basic text. I would not use this button if your unsure about it, it's normaly used for people who like live feeds to their computer.

Beside clicking on the index page ‘Mark Forums Read’ which will do as it says, make all forums like they have been read (which you might not want), Instead you can choose individual forums.. For example if you are looking at the listing of new topics in the KNOW EGYPT section, to the right on the bar underneith the page count, there is a button Forum View Post Options click this and there is an option to Mark topics read this will only mark all the topics read for that forum only.
