Broccolli

Tue 24 Mar, 2009, 20:27 pm

I raise my hand and confess to being gullible and easily swayed, it's for this reason that I have another 2 kilos of Broccoli sitting in my kitchen. 2 Kilos of broccoli is quite a fair lot of broccoli in any language. Imagine a Sainsbury's bag full of the stuff and that's a good visual comparison for you, and it's that that I've been dealing with today, made worse by the fact that space in the fridge and the freezer is going to be at a premium in the next few days thanks to a buffet.

So what does a girl do with 2 kilos of broccoli? Well, sit back in your seats because this is going to be a riveting tale of how I chopped my broccoli into submission
Wink

There were some pretty monstrous stems, so I hacked them all off, peeled them, blanched them and chopped them up into tiny cubes, popped them all in a freezer bag and stuffed them into the back of the freezer where they'll become part of a cream of broccoli soup and/or extra oomph for a veggie stock.

Then all the florets got separated into little weeny florets (Egyptian heads of broccoli are seriously huge - imagine double the size of a UK one and you're about there!) blanched and bagged, 2 quarters gone into the freezer and a quarter for tonight's meal - broccoli gratin with blue cheese. And the final quarter bagged up in the bottom drawer of the fridge with the intention of it becoming a broccoli and chicken flan sometime tomorrow, so long as I don't forget.

Even the dogs shared in the bounty of Broccoli, chopped up into little bowls they absolutely love the stuff! Thank goodness for 2 kilos! Rolling Eyes
