How Did the Chicken cross the road??

Road crossing is not one of my favourite things - chuck in a Sham El Nessim Public Holiday and it's like a nightmare with a capital 'k'.
On my way home this afternoon I had to cross the road twice. The first time was fine - had to cross over one road to get to the corniche - and then actually cross the corniche. I was with another lady who was a bit nervous and I was plowing ahead making a route for her and stopping cars with an outstretched hand to get her over all these roads. It was no problem, I felt like a dab hand at it.
Then we got in the taxi and I jumped out (not literally, mind) as we went past the end of my road. This left me on the wrong side of the corniche again, all the cars were whizzing past - the other side of the road was gridlocked so all I had to do was get over the first four lanes and I'd be able to manage the rest. I stood there .... and I stood there ...... and I realised I couldn't do it! It was ok when I was shepherding someone else across the road, but that Corniche has put the fear of God into me ever since I came to Alex. Trying to cross it at 3pm on a public holiday was a really BAD idea!
Behind me I could hear the throngs of boys lining the corniche 3 feet deep and I panicked a bit more! Way back in my past I got run over on my way to school, so ever since been a bit wary of roads!
I had two options:
Option 1) Call Mr G and see if he had left for work and if he could come and help me.
Option 2) Get into another taxi and make him turn at the next branch off so I'd be over on the other side.
Option 2 would have been a brilliant plan - If it hadn't been for the fact I'd just handed over the last bit of money in my pocket to the other taxi driver, so option 1 it was!
The moral of this story is: When you need to cross the road in Egypt; Make sure you have lots of cash in your pocket!
