I have no idea why the Froggies are getting all aerated about the halal burgers and saying they are discriminatory

Nobody mentions the veggie bean burger being discriminatory against non vegetarians do they

Yes they have Quick burgershops in France. I really like them! But what's this about a halal burger?

Oh it was on the news about Quick introducing Halal Burgers and the French in uproar about it saying it was being racist.

It's really stupid because there are loads of halal butchers in France and no one bats an eyelid. Loads of vegetarians too and no one is boycotting the veggie food markets in France.

What's discriminatory about offering choice or were they making all burgers halal? Mmm they do have Arabic butchers in certain areas of France but they are concentrated in certain areas!

I realize this is an old topic but just a little bit ago I saw on a TV show there is a new marketing strategy being started which is to start marketing halal in many of the mainstream stores here. The point of the show was that there is a large untapped Muslim 'market' available (probably to exploit! NOT that any of the businesses here would ever do that)

Just wondering ? ? How much is a kilo of beef in Egypt now ? ? Here in Portugal its from 6 euro to 14 euro at the village butcher, with the license of where it came from (Portugal Alentejo) and I alway get a big bag of free bones ! :wd:

I don't know how much a Euro equate to (and have done the exchange) but here in the USA for a middle level grade of beef it costs about $3.50 a pound. About the same for pork.

In Canada for the same grade of beef is about $7/pound (not kilo) and maybe slightly less for port. Turkey at Christmas are on sale for sometimes .50/pound in the USA. Canada 'on sale' is about triple that.

LLL. my Google tells me one euro is 75 cents U.S. then it adds one dollar is 1.33 euro. You get 5.80 le for one dollar U.S. Always different when you get to the change shop though.

Goodness, good quality beef in Britain costs considerably more than Portugal or US. Fresh turkey this past Christmas was considerably more than 50 cents a pound. I'm pretty sure frozen turkey was more than that. Our food bills have been climbing lately and a recent raise in VAT (value added tax) has pushed the price of processed food up even more. Non luxury staples are vat exempt but a committee sits somewhere and decides what attracts VAT or not. EG choc chip cookies are VAT exempt and Choc covered cookies attract 20% VAT. Imagine that was your job, you could go in to work determined to fight for the rights of choc chip cookie eaters. Imagine how proud you could be when you fought and won your corner! On the other hand you could get a real job in the real world! Oops, sorry, forgot, those are fast dissappearing.

Mrs H does the shopping and I just do the carrying, so I am not really up on prices.
However she has been saying recently how various items are just jumping up in price every week, so as Morgita says our UK food bills are certainly increasing. The other aspect is of course the VAT that is added to lots of items which stood at 17.5% on most goods, that has now risen to 20%, but the real cost will be far more, as in the case of when decimalisation of our currency took place back in the 70s and many old prices were just 'rounded up' to the nearest New Penny, so we all found that goods were more expensive overall after the transition took place.
It also meant that what used to be a small increase of say a Penny on a loaf of bread, now became double that on every subsequent increase due to our small coins now having more than twice their original face value.

I've seriously thought about collecting pennies given their face value is worth more than their 1 penny worth!

Now here's a good money making venture, however I do not have all the facts, so google this for confirmation..

A 2 pence piece manufactured before 1992, is worth about 4 pence today in scrap value..

Milk, Bread, Petrol, Gas, Electricity.. get out your old receipts and bills and see for yourselves..

When I first moved to the USA March 2000 the cost of a gallon of gasoline was .88 cents. Now, as of today when I filled up it was $3.25/gallon.

Medium sized navel oranges are on sale this week 10 pounds for $10.00. Apples are running about $1.50/pound now for most varieties. Tomatoes (roma) average $1.50/pound and a head of lettuce 'on sale' is about $1.

Bread I dunno cause I make my own and eggs I get from my ladies however I know that for 1 dozen organic eggs you're looking at approximately $4.00.

I agree the costs are going up up up up up and my own salary has definitely NOT kept up with inflation. In actuality here the gov't has imposed 'furlough' days. Days workers stay home without pay. Basically amounts to a 5% pay cut with another approximate 3% pending which does NOT count all the health benefits that have now gone through the roof.

My petrol works out to over 10 $ a gallon in Portugal, much cheaper in Spain. Gas for cooking is now is 27 $ knee-high bottle, DITTO Spain. This explains why I use a motorbike and eat a lot of salads ! !

And don't forget that here in the UK, on top of the extortionate increases by the energy suppliers, we will compound the insult by adding a tax of 20% on top the bill. So that is inflation piled on top of inflation and they wonder why people hold governments in distain.
