A Caroling We will Go!

Post by PRchick »

It's that time of year! What's your favorite Christmas Carol?

Mine would have to be The Little Drummer Boy.

I think she means The First Noel.

The First Noel

The First Noel, the Angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the East beyond them far
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

And by the light of that same star
Three Wise men came from country far
To seek for a King was their intent
And to follow the star wherever it went.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

This star drew nigh to the northwest
O'er Bethlehem it took its rest
And there it did both Pause and stay
Right o'er the place where Jesus lay.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

Then entered in those Wise men three
Full reverently upon their knee
And offered there in His presence
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord
That hath made Heaven and earth of nought
And with his blood mankind has bought.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

Come they told me parum pum pum pum
A new-born king to see parum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring parum pum pum pum
To lay before the king parum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum Rum pum pum pum
So to honour him parum pum pum pum
When we come

Baby Jesus parum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too parum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring parum pum pum pum
That's fit to give our king parum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum Rum pum pum pum
Shall I play for you parum pum pum pum
On my drum?

Mary nodded parum pum pum pum
The ox & lamb kept time parum pum pum pum
I played my drum for him parum pum pum pum
I played my best for him parum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum Rum pum pum pum
Then he smiled at me parum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

Wish I'd never read this thread - since I don't know all the words to the pa rum pum pum pum song - I'm now walking round the flat humming and then letting rip with the only bit I can remember!

So I'm going to say my favourite is The First Noel - in the hope I can get that other one out of my head!

My very favorite Christmas song is one done by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in their album White Christmas from 1977. The album is no longer available and was never released on CD. But one song, "Baby, What You Going To Be" has stayed with me. Done in the style of an African American spiritual, it's hauntingly beautiful music and lyrics makes me weep every time I hear it. I found this version on YouTube. You can tell it was taken from the album as the sound quality is not wonderful. So I've put the lyrics below. See what you think:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

BABY, WHAT YOU GOING TO BE

Baby, Lying in a manger, slumbering so sweetly,
Whatcha gonna be?
Baby, all the world is watchin',
all the world awaits to see,
what will you be?
Baby sleeping in a stable, underneath the heavens,
whatcha gonna say?
Baby, did you bring the Good News?
Did you come to light our way?
O What will you say?

Oh, look, see the cattle asleep, see the shepherds beside,
See the Wise Men, they bow unto you.
Baby
Are you the one who was meant to be Master?
To bring in the Kingdom too?
Alleluia Alleluia
Baby, Hope of all the people,
what you come here to do?
What you come to say?
Baby,
Are you the Chosen?
Are you the Savior?
Come to save the world one day?
Baby,
can you be the Savior?
Come to save the world one day?
Baby, lying in a manger,
Are you the one?
will you save the world one day?

[face=Comic Sans MS]For me that has to be one of the worst renditions of Silent Night I've ever heard! Apart from the poor breath control, since when was it 'Silen Nigh, Holy Nigh' 'round yon mother, virgin an chil'. It was helped once the choir came in but still not that good.[/face]
