Good Luck but not Goodbye

I became a member of these forums in November 2006, less than 2 years after Keefy had created them. In those years and up until 2013 we visited Egypt at least twice a year so membership of the forums was both relevant to our visits and entertaining for their content.
Apart from the often lively discussion and banter between the members at that time, there was also the competitions for pictures, poems, stories etc which added entertainment and good natured rivalry between members.
But times have changed and Egypt is no longer the very popular holiday destination that it was. Our first visit was in 1996, our last in2013, so we had 18 years of enjoyable holidays during which time we made some good friends, both Egyptian and ex pats.
But now I find little of interest on L4U or E4U so I have decided to withdraw. Maybe it is time to write my memoirs. ;)
Take care everyone, I know that I shall not be able to resist looking in from time to time, but meanwhile I will just say 'à bientôt', goodbye is just too final.
From your forum friend, Grandad x

Let's face it, people come and go on this site with a lot of regularity. In fact, more go than come! Ah well. So be it. Bye, Grandad!

Well who would have believed that without men this forum would be lost.....Grandad and Horus have given up the ghost so slowly but surely Egypt4u is dying the same way as Redsea4u did...Do you think this is because we are all of an age when either living or visiting Egypt was a totally different ball game to what it is now or is it just that like a lot of other Egypt forums it has run it's life.
I moderate on the Egypt page of a worldwide forum and the Egypt section has also slowly died the death and seems to all relate back to the revolution when lots of expats left Egypt never to return....Anyone got any thoughts on this ?

I'm not posting much at the moment due to a chest infection, a trapped sciatic nerve and eczema down both arms!

I've now torn a muscle in my stomach through coughing so hard! Here we both are at 2 am and I'm almost suicidal without any sleep!

Don't think it has actually shut down just no one posts on it anymore.

Hi Folks, I haven't had a chance to contribute recently as my actual emigration is in progress.

I hope over the next few weeks to have a bit of a holiday before stage two starts and still have more time to contribute.

In the meantime I wish you all well and hope to see you soon - God Bless you all. :up

Door to door the journey took 11hours. We went Cardiff to Schiphol where we stayed a few hours in the lovely shopping area. In a tiny flower shop I saw some huge Amaryllis bulbs and my daughter bought two for me.

Then we changed airlines from KLM with plenty of leg room and
good standards to Trivago. Very cramped as more cattle class but excellent cabin crew. I had hoped to take my scooter with me, KLM were helpful and ok'd it but Trivago were incredibly obstructive over size - it's a small vehicle which only weighs 39kg - so I regretfully left it behind.

My daughter was amazed at the care, help and kindness we received on our way. We sped through everything in the airports. All the people dealing with me as an assisted passenger were not only good at their job they were friendly and amusing companions.

I had accidentally put a sponge bag with scissors in it in my hand luggage! I got a gentle admonishment after it had been referred to a supervisor - and they were returned! When we got to Ibiza we had no entry inspections of our luggage just off the plane and straight out!

It being Friday a tasty carry out curry for dinner completed a lovely day.

Now the sun is shining, the garden looks lovely and the dogs have given me a very enthusiastic welcome which involves trying to share my bed. I'm feeling rather weak and wobbly right now so opted out of a friend's birthday party today but daughter and grandson have taken my good wishes.

Wish you were here!

I mentioned huge Amaryllis well, they both measure just over 17" round.

The small one weighs 2lbs 1oz and the other 2lbs 6 0z. I've never seen such big bulbs of any variety before. :up
