Camp was great for making cakes though. Nothing matched it for coffee and walnut cake. :eat

@Mad Dilys At that much coffee you would have been on frenetic high non-stop activity level. I also think that for that much coffee 4 hours of sleep would have been lots! ;)

I don't drink coffee much past noon or I won't be able to sleep either.

I've read that tea actually has more caffeine than coffee but for some reason it seems to be different. I can drink a full pot of tea and snooze off no problem at all (although then I'm up and down all night running to the loo). I do love tea with non-fat (aka skim) milk though. 'Tis my drink of choice - "English Breakfast" (plain black tea) is my favourite.

We tried the Blue Mountain on return from town this morning. I did mine espresso to optimise the strength. TBH it is no stronger than Nespresso grade 12 strength pods so it was an expensive experiment.
This is what I paid £12 for :x

Grandad, I agree with you about the coffee in Aswan. It's the best coffee ever! You're right MD - Camp coffee is great in coffee and walnut cake, which is why I keep a bottle in the food cupboard! Tonight however, we have bacon and onion pudding, to be followed by pineapple upside down cake and custard! Just right for a grey, wet October day!

I'm not jealous - I've been munching on locally baked Bara Brith. Google shows Bara Brith as a kind of fruit loaf which is sometimes buttered. :ni:

But - there is no way to describe as "bread" and certainly no way to butter this ridiculously tasty, crumbly, loosely constructed.... (Sorry I had to stop for a minute to eat another piece.) Where was I? "Loosely constructed" meld of tasty ingredients.

Hmm, imagine a very soft fruit cake with too much every thing in it, fabulous but defies description.

Funnily enough if I can't sleep I have a black coffee & then go back to bed & straight off to sleep!

I agree about the Camp coffee in coffee or coffee walnut cake. Coffee walnut cake is my all time favourite cake & luckily we have a tea room place near here that makes lovely ones. :bs:

Change the preparation detail, change the taste! :up

PS Just deleted a far too long and detailed post in preference for the last sentence. ;)

I don't think there is a convenient way to get it. If you want the best you have the mess!

I'm trying hard not to be enticed by this forum into sending off for the tools to make Turkish Coffee. I am but a weak woman.

This was pretty good coffee, brewed from scratch on the bank of the Nile at Aswan :up

But still not as good as the coffee in the backstreet cafe.

@Grandad - Love those little mugs. They're more than cute. I also like the straw in the end of the pot!

Do you remember were those cups on a tray? Or was that the counter top they're sitting on? Has an interesting look.

Re: Bitter Coffee

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

Now - full disclosure - I started this post in Mexico after I had a morning mouthful of the Resort coffee which was in the category of OMG BITTER! I tried dousing it with cream which didn't help so I added more and then thought to me "Geez I'm drinking more cream than coffee" so ended up drinking tea only for the rest of the week (which was quite fine as I don't always drink coffee anyway).

I did scan the crowd and everybody else (daughter and son-in-law included) swilled down lots of the coffee but Geez it tasted so bitter to me.

Couple years ago cause my cholesterol was borderline high I gave up drinking Half 'n Half creamer in my coffee. Don't really mind drinking it black and do however adding cream seems to smooth it out.

I never did find out what kind of coffee was being served and I also kinda wondered IF the coffee tasted so bitter to me cause the equipment wasn't being cleaned after each brew?

This morning I did make a pot of coffee and must've missed part of the filter when I dumped the grounds in as I'm straining coffee grounds out of my morning cuppa as I drink. Target practice is a must.
