Went with the Grandsons to a small outdoor Museum in the next town up Island. Boys loved it. It is the re-creation of what original settlements on the Island looked like.

I also remember most of these tools from my father's work bench area
These long poles with skinner blades were used to skin the bark off of trees. A super hard back breaking job....

I find Museums very interesting but it is also real hard when you're IN a Museum and still have some of the items in your own home where you're using them!

I also love going around museums, always find things with interest

I recognise most of these tools, love the Singer sewing machine, my mother had one of those.

In your second post, second picture what is the tool far left with the weird handle ? I'm not sure of that one.

All very interesting LLL, many items are recognisable to me although not in the same form, many things such as your domestic equipment looks different even though they did the same job. Not sure what the purpose of that flat mushroom shaped top on the stove pot is for or what function that drum with the two bell like things in it does, maybe some sort of washing machine? We had the heavy cast flat irons, but I have never seen one like in your image, was it for ironing sheets? Many of the tools are recognisable apart from such a wide choice of axes, but then again you would have used more native wood in your buildings than we did. None of your tinned and bottled goods in the cupboard had familiar brand names although the products were similar. I bet the kids had a grand time though trying to guess what they were all for.

@Kiya - It is a drill press. Put your shoulder on it and then the handle rotates round and round.

@Horus The Fireplace with the large flange thing across the top were in schools. I think the thinking was it helped to radiate heat but was just an adopted style of early days here. Most wood stoves were more like these which were actually outside under a covered shelter (in the process, I think, of being cleaned up):
The drum with the two bells is one of the first automatic washing machines here. Those two bells went up and down washing the clothes. Never had one myself. The early washing machines we had had center agitators that went back and forth however my Grannies washing machines interior was lined with copper.

This was one of the twins at an old typewriter. They didn't get it at all nor did they get the old rotary dial phone. The Museum did have an assortment of all old items the kids could touch and use. The boys couldn't get how much strength it took to actually use to dial a phone or type.

I had to laugh at the confused look on his face with the typewriter.
