Eid al Adha

Post by PRchick »

I know Eid al Adha is going on in Egypt right now but can any one tell us what this holiday is and how it is celebrated?

'eed il adHa or 'eed il kibeer'

This feast, usually lasting three days, commemorates Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son, and marking the end of pilgrimage to Mecca. Many families buy a sheep which they slaughter on the first morning of the holiday.

Yes when they kill all the sheep  except that this year it appears that the global economic situation has caught up with the festival of sacrifice with price of meat up 30% on last years eid....sign of the times catching up with tradition?
