Trooping the Colour

It's years since I watched the Trooping of the Colour on television, but thought I would today and really enjoyed it.

I must admit to being moved to tears quite often, not completely sure why, but maybe lost in admiration for a spectacular job well done.

My lasting memory is of the poor rider of the grey horse which was immediately behind the Queen's carriage on the way back to Buckingham Palace. This chap didn't appear to have a Horseman's Body but was blessed with rather short and chubby legs. His mount was casually interested in what was going on, and no amount of enthusiastic leg work by the rider could really wake him up.

All the way down the Mall the little legs were at work, but right up to the final moment they appeared on screen the horse showed his contempt for the whole proceedings.

It is on our TV now. Not getting all of it - more highlights - although what they're doing right now is pretty sequential. 1600 troops is pretty impressive.

I'm assuming that Queen Elizabeth didn't RIDE herself? ;)

Commentator just said that she was shot at in 1981 when she rode. I don't think I ever knew that.

As a country I don't believe we are doing very much to actually celebrate this however our flag is the #2 flag in presence there.

I wonder if Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip with make their 70th Wedding Anniversary?

Just had a thought re: security.

As I'm watching the Royals are 'out there' in the open. I wonder if they're wearing flak vests underneath their clothes?

I'd imagine security is so high there is really only 1 tourist in the crowd as the rest are security guards but it is pretty bold in this day and age for the Royals to be out there. Course that is probably the BEST message back to the terrorists. Just hope security is up there and there are no tragedies.
