Tonight after dinner I heard fire alarms.

Sadly, tragically in the downtown historic center of our city a huge fire broke out in a closed building. This was about 6:30pm - 7pm-ish. It is 11:15pm now and the fires are not yet out or under control.

Apparently several businesses have now been wiped out, smoke is thick. Seems the fire is taking out most of a city block

Hope they can get it controlled soon. Going to really have a strong negative impact on tourism which will be starting up here real soon.

How awful for the town, keep us updated on the cause. Can you see the smoke from your house?

Haven't heard any updates this morning but from where the buildings are located it is pretty much centre of the town. We have 4 trucks (one at each station which sort of spreads them through the city). Most of the firemen are volunteers and last I heard on the News they were calling them all in. Not too sure how many actual fire suits we have but that definitely limits how many can be out there tackling anything.

I couldn't see smoke from my house because by the time I realized there was a fire downtown it was dark.

The update re: fire is not good. FIFTEEN businesses were in that building and they're all gone It took the firefighters until 5:30am this morning to have it put out. Apparently it was super intense. Now the investigation will start.
