Yes Robbo it is getting lots of coverage on the main news on TV, another nail in the Egyptian tourism coffin. For an airline that has just had an internal flight hijacked and flown to another country while Egypt is supposedly beefing up its security, then the mind boggles.

For a country that got all arsey over European countries wanting to check out their security before declaring them safe to fly to, they look a little bit silly right now

The same thought had crossed mine (and I suspect many more) minds when I saw the news. Also in typical Egyptian spin they seem to be saying it is more of a domestic issue.

Can you imagine the furore and outrage that would have been displayed in Egypt had that plane flown towards Israel and they had rightly shot it down? or one of the British bases on Cyprus :sd

Looks like a Cairo to New York flight is being held back in Cairo due to security concerns.

Basically Egypt has set us back 15 years in the world of airline security due to their lax practices, is it any wonder that the rest of the world are insisting upon checking them out. Previously every hijacker and his dog could claim to have a bomb and the pilot would have no choice but to comply with their demands, post 911 world security was beefed up to such a degree that a pilot could rely on there having been enough pre flight security checks that it was not a possibility and he could refuse any such demands from a potential hijacker. Now all that has changed, we have had no hijacking incident for 15 years due to the pilot being able to rely on the airport security checks being effective. What happens now? Anyone can now claim to have a bomb and what is a pilot to do other than to go along with it as the security may have been breached as in this instance. At a stroke the laxity of Egyptian security (which we all know about) has opened up another opportunity to be exploited by terrorists. 8)

Its all over now and he has been arrested, seems like it was not a serious threat inasmuch as he had a fake suicide belt, but ...................... he did get it past several security checks :st
