Intolerant Islam?

More Intolerance is being displayed by another Middle Eastern country, namely Qatar who have banned the recently released film ‘The Danish Girl’ as it goes against their culture. What they really mean is it goes against their homophobic and backward religious intolerant beliefs as it is a film about a transgender character. I have no real opinion either way regarding this subject and tend to have a “live and let live” attitude towards homosexuality and transgender just so long as it is kept in perspective and we are not subjected to too many demands from this quarter regarding acceptance. It stars a very good British actor Eddy Redmane and I must say that although it would not be my normal choice of film, the few clips I have seen on TV have tempted me to watch the movie as it looks to have been very well produced and have a very authentic period look to it and an interesting storyline. So once again we see the usual intolerance displayed towards anything involving this subject and being deemed as offensive to their beliefs, which I suppose is to flog, stone to death or throw off a roof anyone who falls into that category, is it really any wonder that those countries still remain in the stone age and hidebound by a backward religion?

Personally in terms of GLBT community I'm neutral or as you say H live and let live. It must be incredible to be born one gender and inside know you are not this but it is nothing within my own personal experience so I really have no intimate or personal stories or details about the actual transformation to share.

I DO have a couple of opinions - some magazine named Bruce Jenner as "Woman of the Year" and I think that was awful especially when there are so many women who have BEEN women all their lives who have really valid world literature/science/research etc accomplishments. I don't see that just cause you've got the $$ and wherewithal to change your gender and play it all out on TV in a reality show puts you in the fore front of womanhood.

I also heard on TV by the by that (I believe it is New York City) a city has now made it a law that IF you address a transgender man as "HE" when indeed they are now a "SHE" that this transgression is fineable up to something like $100,000+. It was some ridiculous amount so incorrectly addressing a transgender person particularly in the workplace. I came in halfway through this discussion so got the gist but didn't get the place. THIS I thought was taking the issues of GLBT to the extreme and, I'm sure, those who have changed or are changing are sometimes rabid about their rights. Would also want to know what is their role in informing everybody of WHICH sex they actually are? Would also like to know exactly WHEN does a man become a woman or vice versa? Is it at the time the decision to change is? Is it at some point during hormonal therapy? Is it when the actual genitalia is changed?

Lots of questions - not that I'm researching answers just it is an issue that has lots of profound matters surrounding it.

HAAAAA HAAAAAAA . - - - Oh dear LLL. so we had better watch our mouths ? I advise using the words " Hey you " that should get over any gender doubts. As for all these Giblet people, they do annoy me when they shove it in my face. I have no idea what they do but I imagine its not very hygienic.

I honest feel that I'm honestly very 'neutral' about everybody in the world. Colour, race, creed, religion, sexual orientation etc - none of it really gives me a bother at all - UNLESS one starts shoving it in my face and demanding "I" change or in some way modify what I do. I also feel that I'm really a life and let live, I never require anybody to change to fit ME so I can be put out if the demand comes to me as something I've done wrong. IF I have done something to offend I'm quick to genuinely apologize if I know I've hurt somebody so it rather rubs me the wrong way when somebody goes out of their way to make all the wrong assumptions and starts to shove something down my throat.

I know that Islam is pretty homophobic - not sure why but I'd hate to be anything other than a straight person there as am sure you would be persecuted which to me is crazy.

I would object to having to comply to a law to refer correctly to anybody in the GLBT community especially if the onus is not on them to INFORM how they wish to be addressed. Seems a crazy law to me and another piece of fluff that is designed to make sure the rest of the world tiptoes around an extremely small minority. However is one does not comply the punishment is ridiculously severe.

One thing which really troubles me about most religions is that they are, in truth, perceived to be nothing like the way their founders imagined.

There is a world of difference between the original concept and the way that it has become traditionally to be practiced.

For example should Christians regard the Old Testament as part of their faith? Big chunks of it have been disregarded by "Christians" especially Protestants. Yet it has much in common with Jews and Muslims

When Henry VIII decided that he wanted to marry yet another wife, he changed the laws of Christianity so that he could do so. and he opened a real Pandora's box.

I have often been told by Muslims from various parts of the world that "According to Islam" this or that all totally different are "allowed" or "forbidden" when the truth is that custom and/or tradition are being followed.

Islam is not alone in how it's followers choose to follow it - Christianity is a pick and mix - there is quite a difference between Coptic Christians, Welsh Methodists, Jehovah's Witnesses and Catholics for example let alone the Church of England.

I personally resent being coupled with the present Psychotic rabble that call themselves Islamic State. I have nothing in common with them except human form. I am repelled and revolted by the misrepresentation of what I regard as a compassionate and forgiving way of life. :xx

End of rant. 8)

I see where you are comming from MD, but unfortunatly we all suffer from the same age old stereotypes, just look at how many Muslim countries and not just Daesh who will happily cite 'The Crusades' as being some form of justification for their current attitudes towards the West in general, even though most of us feel exactly the same sentiments as you do in being lumped in with a general description to represent our Christian countries. :urm:
