Used to love the sliced eggplant at the cafe near Ramses, two plates just for me, delicious. The cook gave me a bottle of spices to take home, of course they are gone by now. I have grown eggplant so does anyone know the recipe and the method ? ? ? thankyou hopefully - :eat

I've never grown eggplant and I don't believe I've ever cooked it either.

When I lived in the Canarias tried lots of eggplant, every way was horrible so when I found it delicious in Egypt I thought one year I would grow it again. Well its grown but I have lost the scrap of paper with the recipe - huh - typical. :urm:

Never been a big fan of it, I find it either a bit bland or a bit acrid, so rarely eat it. I do on occasion cook it as part of a Mediterranean roast vegetable dish that I make to accompany sliced belly pork. I usually just drizzle some virgin olive oil over it and some ground black pepper, add some rough cut onion pieces, some sweet potatoes or gem squash, Broccoli and a few sliced up sweet peppers and there you have it.

Have you tried making up something yourself? You could use things like ground Cumin, Sesame and Coriander seeds. Paprika, Black Pepper, even Cinnamon could be used to flavour them as could a drop of honey then shallow fry in hot oil. Alternatively make up a light batter and dip them and again shallow fry until crispy.

C'mon Horus and LLL never eaten Baba Ganoush? Mmmmm :D

The first time I ate Aubergine was at the Bunny Club Saddle Bar in London in 1978.

I had a half pound steak, twice cooked chips, grilled tomatoes and thin slightly crisp slices of Aubergine and all for 10 shillings! :eat

Mind you they didn't serve single measures of drinks - doubles and trebles only and at top West End Prices.

I think Horus and I share the same taste buds. Don't care for it and do NOT like Tahini either (although my oldest daughter loves it).

I do eat lots of vegetables and I also do lots of juicing with fruits and veggies. Maybe I should periodically add an eggplant to my juicing (just in case it is carrying some vitamin or mineral that I might need and not getting elsewhere)
