Egypt as a Film Set

Post by HEPZIBAH »

[face=Comic Sans MS]Many places in Egypt have been used as a Film location/set over the years. Some of our forum members have even played parts in some productions.

What films can you think of that have been filmed completely or partly in Egypt?

I'll start with the obvious [/face]- Death on the Nile

I believe that the latest Hollywood release entitled Transformers 2 'Revenge of the Fallen' was filmed around the pyramids and in Luxor :)

A lot of Indian films shoot a couple of songs abroad and last year, a film called 'Singh is King' shot two songs in Egypt.

They have turned out amazingly and I have added the links below, def worth seeing.

The Sphinx,

lots of it was shot around the Valley of the Nobels

I LOVED Singh is King. I was on a BA flight to London in January and just chose a random Bollywood film to watch as I couldn't read the titles of the Bollywood films menu and chose that by chance. The sequence with the chicken near the beginning had me doubled over with laughter and I was so pleasantly surprised when they landed in Cairo! The entire film is on YouTube too or at least was a couple months ago.

My husband just went to Radio Shack half an hour ago to buy new earphones for his MP3 player as his old pair had died and he plugged them in when he got home and guess what song came out?

 Years ago you couldn't get away from that song - it used to be on tv at least three times a day! They used to show the outtakes from it too - when the girl fell down the hole on the bloopers program.

1980. Probably the last time a foreign film was shot in its majority in Egypt, which is pretty sad.

I've got the book somewhere, can't recall offhand who it is written by, is it Arthur Hailley?? I'll have a look later.

The lead woman in the film was Leslie Anne Down. Its a bit of a farce, but brilliant scenery where it was filmed. The book is quite good to.
