I didn't see this in the TV schedule and only caught it by chance. This evening, BBC2 9pm, Dave Myers, one of the 'Hairy Bikers', travelled for Cairo to Aswan checking out traditional Egyptian cooking but with particular emphasis on the many types of bread. It was a superb program wonderfully filmed in HD and a good mix of cooking and travelogue.
What we liked in particular was that many places Dave went to, we have also been to, including the Luxor restaurant where he cooked pigeon and the family homes in Aswan where they slaughtered a sheep and cooked it for a feast.
If you missed it I recommend that you get it on iplayer. This is the first of a series of six, next week is India. :up

I have it recorded Grandad and the link set for the series, a shame about his mate Sy who has recently suffered a brain anurism and is now hopefully recovering as we speak, not being with him. They do make a most interesting pair and I find them very likeable and down to earth as they travel around usually on their motorbikes and neither takes themselves too seriously, get well soon Sy :up

Just remembered the name of the restaurant where he had the pigeon. It is Sofra and they serve traditional Egyptian cuisine and no alcohol. We have been several time and the time to go is Thursday evening, if you can get in (best to reserve) when locals go there with the family. Great atmosphere up on the open first floor. Give it a try if in Luxor again. :up
