Musings

On Saturday morning my friend and I took Little Annie out for a stroll near to her home and it was again around another lake.

This one was a lot smaller than the one I visited last week and comprised of a short stroll through some woodlands and then around a fishing pool, once again it was a bright but very cold day. The local bird life was preparing for the mating season and already the Mallards were pairing up, there were also lots of Squirrels running around and scratching about for Beech Nuts in the leaf litter. It always surprises me that as these are obviously very young Squirrels as to how they would know where the Autumn nuts are buried?

The lake has a small island and I was surprised to see another example of wicker work in the shape of a large fish on the island, how strange to see another example of this art form at a place some 30 miles from where I took last weeks photos.

We returned back to my house where I cooked us a cholesterol filled Brunch of Bacon, Eggs, Kidneys, Hash Browns, Pork Sausages, Mushrooms & Baked Beans washed down with a nice mug of Tea, just the ticket to warm you up again after a nice walk.

I also reminded her of the lovely dinner she had missed a while back because she had mixed her days up, a starter of Avocado Pear and mixed Olive salad, with fresh Nectarine slices and honey flavoured Greek Yoghurt as a desert. The main meal was to have been Rib Eye Steak and French Fries washed down with a nice bottle of Shiraz, most of it ended up in the bin! :x

The meal looks delicious and I love the colourful table! How come the rib eye ended up in the bin? I'd of forced me to use it for something! ;)

The wicker fish art and just the wicker art in general is quite nice and interesting. Definitely adds a bit of interest to the landscape and for people out on walks. And, cause it is natural stuff it is no impact really on the environment when it starts to deteriorate.

I haven't seen too many squirrels around here and the couple I have seen are grey. Still hoping for a couple of albinos like Grandads but I think I'm stuck with grey ones ;)

WOW .. I am totally amazed at all the food you have crammed on that plate..... did you finish it up ? All I would have eaten would be the beans and egg. I can assure you I would never ever mix the dates up if you were offering those fruit and salad plates ... yummmmy !! You are lucky to have so many parks near you - have you ever encountered the travelling wicker artist ?

You have some lovely looking places around your area Horus :)

The pictures are lovely & the meals look yummy, I had a set of salt & pepper containers like yours on the table, I wonder where they disappeared to :urm:

All your food always looks very appealing H but far too much on a plate for me, especially the 'Full English' Perhaps you folks in the midlands have bigger appetites than us down south. ;) But it is colder up there so I suppose you need the calories.

Very nice pictures as always and if that is the latest Fuji, it is performing very well. :up

Our squirrels have not been too much in evidence lately but I believe some hibernate. As for the little ones finding food Horus, I don't think any of them REMEMBER where it is cached, I think they work on the basis that they know there are a lot of little caches and they are bound to find one if they seach.

LLL, we only have one albino at the moment but we must have a genetic strain because for more tha twenty years now we have always had at least one white.

It didn’t all go to waste as I had some of it, but as I plan my preparation and cooking to coincide with my guests arriving some stuff was already underway, like the chunky French fries in the oven and the Rib eyes were underway. Part of that fruit and yoghurt dish was frozen to make it firm and as you know once you cut an Avocado it starts to go brown very quickly, you can maybe hold the meal back for about half an hour or so, but not overnight. :(

Jay, I don’t think it is the work of just one person, maybe just an idea that has caught on locally. :)

We have had those for years Kiya and I cannot think when we actually acquired them, maybe it was at your house, ;) but they certainly have lasted very well, other sets have come and gone, but these just keep going.

Yes they were all taken with the X-S1, it always seems to take nice pictures of water such as lakes and ducks. I reckon you are correct about the Squirrels and they just get lucky.

@ Kiya, thanks for the heads up on the Winter Watch programme, all planned in on the Sky box. :up
