Nativity Scenes

Since it is that time of year again everybody is decorating their houses and putting out lights and I see a few houses are being so bold (touch of sarcasm here re: bold) as to put out nativity scenes. I don't think these are so much an issue here as in the USA where arguments over nativity scenes usually end up in court battles.

We do get the odd malcontent here who seems to object to the sun coming up in the morning but by and large we're pretty tolerant and I have a sneaking suspicion our public places, town squares etc just tacitly avoid the controversy so avoid putting out a nativity.

Personally they don't bother me one way or another. I enjoy the ones that are well detailed and present nicely just as I enjoy menorahs and other religious symbols representative of a holiday.

How are nativity scenes being taken there? Are they up there with Christmas trees now PC referred to as Holiday trees? And are you Merry Christmasing or Happy Holidays? I'm definitely Merry Christmasing as I gaze upon the Nativity scenes :up

Although I would count myself as Atheist I have no problem with the Christmas story because that is what it is, A Story. But I am very happy to see the representations of 'The Nativity' because it is part of that story; and I am also happy to wish friends, family and others, Happy, or Merry Christmas.

Christmas is a national holiday just as it is in other religions on their saints days and festivals. So whatever your views about The Story, you still have the holiday. But the significance of the day to those who believe is gradually being eroded in our 24/7 world and I can envisage the day when the original meaning will be lost completely and Christmas day will be just another HOLIDAY.
