Snow

We had a slight skiff which was sufficient to send me running to find the snow shovel and de-icer.

Really can't stand the white stuff - wet heavy sloshy messy and usually looks dirty within the day.
Granted I do love waking up to wonderfully white mornings but can't really stand the stuff otherwise.
We're real cold right now too as in double Brrrrrr weather

UK has been fairly mild of late LLL, although not a lot of sunshine to go with it, hopefully the snow stays away.

Quite mild here in the south too, 15c at the weekend but down to 8c today.....I'll settle for that until March

I went out with Annie today for about 3 hours and it was quite cold , but with a warm wintery sun when you were out of the shade, very low in the sky and so bright that it made the drive back again hard going, sunshade down and squinting my eyes all the way home.

Yesterday and today we're still getting sun with the freezing cold that comes with it. Too cold to snow but this is apparently going to change by this weekend. I just don't want mega snow this year. Am hoping it'll be a mind winter with minimal snow.
The swamp out back is frozen but I haven't yet seen any ducks or geese walking on the ice. Always think that looks funny and I'll get a shot if and when I can.

Or better still LLL, try to get them
landing on the ice.

Yes landing would be even better! Swamp has stayed frozen all day but then I've stayed INSIDE all day (so far) watching the hummers fight over the nectar. Need to get down there with the camera to watch for them coming in. Landing would be a pretty slippery slope!

Last night we had a heavy enough frost I thought it had snowed but "whew" it was only a super heavy frost. Hummers were definitely appreciative when I put the feeders out this morning.
Probably not going to melt off either.

It has started to get a lot more chilly at night around here also, with some slight early morning frost and some has stayed on the ground all day in shady areas.

I've got to root around in the garage and find my container of kitty litter and also shove a snow shovel into the car. When it does snow here it can sometimes come down so heavy that in an hour you can have a couple of inches of snow on the ground before you're even aware it is snowing. The snow here typically seems to always be just on the cusp of melting so it packs down quickly and turns to ice just as quickly too.

I am not making any premonitions, but I have just purchased a new snow shovel.

Yes I carried out the traditional method of placating the snow gods, I sat in front of the TV with a bottle of Shiraz and kept uttering the incantaion "Mmm this is not a bad bottle" until it was completly emty. It seemed to work OK as there was no snow this morning, but to be on the safe side I will repeat the ceremony again tonight.

I'd keep up the tradition on a regularly irregular basis H throughout the winter just to keep the Gods placated and away!

Many houses in my road converted the integral garage into a forth bedroom or additional reception room. It is times like winter when I am so happy that we resisted doing that and, instead, extended at the rear of the house.
I love reversing my clean car out of the garage (after I have used my snow shovel to clear the frontage of course

) when others are desperately sweeping snow off their cars and using windscreen de-icers.

Many moons ago my house had a sloping driveway down. I'll admit soon as snow season arrived I used to park it at the end of the driveway on top on a flat area and did have to dig it out from under heaps of snow but I always figured it was better than going into free-slid directly into and through the garage!!

I can't complain about snow today as today I'm on about the absolute rain GALES we're getting. WOW!! I don't believe the rain can come down any harder. There were big storm warnings up since yesterday and they are definitely coming true today.
I had an electrician scheduled to come and put up motion sensor lights on the far side of the house and understandably he has called to say he will be passing on today (understandably) given he'd be blown off his ladder.
Here's to hoping the swamp won't rise too much out back. Starting to look more like a small lake out there.

Soooo - it has been raining here super heavy. So heavy in fact there is now extensive flooding, road closures, evacuations, emergency shelters set up.
The city I live in issued a BOIL WATER NOTICE as follows:
Reason: Unacceptable turbidity
Steps taken to remedy: To be determined upon inspection
Corrective actions remaining: Only notification at this time
Unacceptable turbidity means to me that bacteria has gotten into our water because our water processing equipment probably hasn't been equal to the amount of rain coming down.....Would I be right in thinking this is possibly/probably E coli?
Had to call my girlfriend today. She and the hubby are on holiday in Arizona. Had to let her know that given the maps that have been issued her house has in all probability been flooded.

I can't go look because of the road closures and to make it worse the airports are closed (cause of the flooding).......Not good all 'round. Definitely hope her stuff has remained high and dry. You go up 4 steps to get into her front door.......keeping my fingers crossed.
