Raw or cooked?

Post by Jayway »

Any opinions welcome. I grow peas that I am now picking. These are picked small, delicious to pop and eat whilst watching TV. BUT when I cook them they turn rock hard and have no taste at all. I have tried freezing them hoping to get petit pois like in BirdsEye packs, but no, still horrible. Any suggestions ?

Are they 'Garden' peas ie. sweet, or are they the 'Marrowfat' type used in say mushy peas?

Garden peas are a bit peculiar in as much as you need to pick them early morning and steam or boil them in very little water within a few hours of picking, also they tend to develope a lot of starch in them after about three week, so are best picked when quite small.
