Which country gives the largest financial reward to its athletes for bringing an Olympic Gold medal home?

The answer is.......Kazakstan.....awarding $250,000!! followed by Latvia and India!

I guess I never thought in terms of any country actually giving an athlete a financial bonus. I figured in the USA/Canada/UK the athletes would get sufficient $$ in their pockets by way of endorsing products however apparently most, if not all, countries give financial bonuses to their athletes if they win.

And I thought Olympic athletes were supposed to be AMATEUR

Hate to say this --- TOLD YOU SO --

For years I thought they were all supposed to be amateur too. I think most get around it by endorsing products, not taking a salary and having some other entity manage their money.

However if you do win a GOLD it would be nice to be compensated in some way for all your hears of hard work and training. The compensation, am sure, would be presented like a prize vs a salary.
