Went to get the newspaper this morning at the local Londis 'corner shop'. It is not large being 2 small shop units converted into one mini market with Off License, General Provisions, Bakery, Pharmacy and Post Office. Standing at the Post Office counter I noticed a TV screen with 9 small pictures and then realised that this little shop has 9 CCTV cameras distributed across the ceiling producing excellent sharp colour pictures.

I believe they are a new installation having not noticed them before. But there hangs the truth, I read that in the UK there is a CCTV camera for every 32 people so we live with them and forget that they are there, recording our every move.....spooky

Edit: Just seen a more recent estimate of around 5million cameras in the UK that would equate to about one for every 12 people.

Or one for each person in Scotland well I think Scotland's population is 5 million

Nah! Kiya at least half of all Scots live in the UK and work for the BBC

Don't understand how Scotland can hope to have home rule and become separated from the UK......there is hardly anyone left up there to fund all the taxes So you would all end up in crofts.....

Geez I haven't heard the "But & Ben" for years. Almost forgot about it.

I'd hate to think how many cameras there are in the USA watching everybody. There are cameras along the Interstates, cameras at all the street corners and I've no doubt cameras everywhere in the stores. I almost do not understand how they can't 'see' everything everywhere.

Not too sure about Canada in that am sure in the big cities there are cameras all over the place just like in the US but am not as sure about cameras in the country.

You DO forget about them. The storage for all the captured info has got to be phenomenal. Saw a big of a documentary in the US where they're building HUGE storage warehouses out in the desert areas just for keeping all the data they collect.

Just thinking about this thread again in relation to the Use of Drones. Seems the USA is using drones now to watch/spy on and then attack people, identified destinations. It does save the boots on the ground troops but ?

Pakistan also seems to be a favourite place to target too. Ethical?

Well as far as I'm concerned, if some scummy terrorist can plant a bomb to kill people using a remote detonating device, them we can blow the crap out of them with an unmanned drone.

Concur IF they're only used to get the bad guy but I kinda wonder how many are being used to watch the rest of us?
