Ever wondered about the power of advertising?
I was browsing about on You Tube and decided to listen to The Kinks singing Lola, a brilliant song that if you listen carefully to the words is about a transvestite, great song and a favourite of mine.
But…… as I listened to this version which is to all intents and purpose the original ( I have a pretty good ear for music and remembering song lyrics) so it struck me that something was wrong with the words of this version which I am sure is the original recording
It should have the words “I met her in a club down in old Soho where you drink champagne and it tastes just like Cherry Cola”
But to my surprise the words said “Coca Cola” so I did another search and found what I know to be the original version sung with the correct words and here it is:
So now I am wondering if this is some sort of insidious advertising by the Coco Cola company to get the Kinks to modify the song to include their own brand name? Very curious.
