I think in this day and age almost everybody has a cell phone. It isn't a luxury it is a necessity and texting is the latest way of communicating. To make texting faster lots of short cuts have been developed - i.e. BTW (By The Way), IMO (In My Opinion), ROFL (Rolling on the Floor Laughing), BFF (Best Friend Forever) and are in use NOW. Most of todays shortened language has been developed by young kids and young adults and it is second nature to them - BUT - life will prevail and one day they'll be growing old too. Am thinking their shortened speech will still be reflected in their text messages.........a few examples of how their text messages will change over time and what they'll be texting.

Senior Citizens Texting Code:

ATD – At The Doctor

BFF – Best Friend Fell

BTW – Bring the Wheelchair

BYOT – Bring Your Own Teeth

FWIW – Forgot Where I Was

GGPBL – Gotta Go Pacemaker Battery Low

GHA – Got Heartburn Again

IMHAO – Is My Hearing Aid On

OMMR – On My Massage Recliner

OMSG – Oh My – Sorry Gas

ROFCGU – Rolling On Floor Can’t Get Up

TTYL – Talk To Ya Louder

What is your favourite anacronym to use when texting?

I am one of those boring people who tends to write texts in full even including apostrophes and capitals at the start of a sentence and for nouns. Old habits die hard :(

I DO use the easy to interpret abbreviations like 2, 4, 8, u, r, c etc. just to save a few characters because I am not very good at the very short text....

I have heard it said that if you leave out all the vowels your text will still be understandable. I think there is an element of truth in that until somebody accidentally sends to your landline and the system tries to automatically read it back....That's when you have a good ROFL

We can read mail if the first letter and the last letter of a word is correct, the middle letters can be muddled up, our brain sorts it ! As for texts, I like mine written in english not the shortened version except WTF - universally understood -
