Another cold day in this part of the world with no real daylight, so very little chance of getting out with the camera. So I decided to have a mess around by changing some old B & W photos into modern colour versions, this can be done quite easily by using your Hue & Saturation options and a little bit of judicious use of the outline selection tool.

It was while I was looking for a suitable model that I researched for some pictures of old film stars, there are lots to choose from, but what really struck me was the stunning beauty of some of these ladies. OK, I accept that anyone can look good with all that money spent on them and they have a head start on most ladies who cannot afford the treatment they receive in order to look so good,.
But ………………. when you compare them with today’s so called super stars and beauties, some of these oldies would win hands down.

This one is the actress Hety Lamarr, she probably didn’t have Auburn hair or blue eyes, but I claim artistic licence.

Even as a child I was struck by her beauty, discovered as my mother and I enjoyed movie marathons of films from the 40's, my favourite era.

Interesting result, like the hand-tinted wedding photos in my mother's albums.

A similar process I suppose, as all the colour has to be added to each item to get the results as shown in the second picture.

Many of the beauties of ages ago never had a wrinkle! I often wonder what type of makeup they used to use to accomplish not a wrinkle anywhere? (And/or - how they lived to prohibit a wrinkle from appearing anywhere)

Well that is totally true H - but - still in the olden days none of the great beauties then seemed ever to have a wrinkle. Pancake makeup maybe?

I DO agree with you WI, I too love those old films particularly the wartime epics actually made during the war years. I love the 'plummy' English accents but at least you could here every word.

I wouldn't know about makeup LLL but I think most of those 'stars' in their heyday were only in their twenties and thirties so should have had good complexions.....but I DO remember something could 'pancake' that covered a multitude of imperfections....

Totally agree! Ever seen "Waterloo Bridge", G? Classic (just make sure the tissues are handy :cc )!

i think in the good old days it must've been really hard work to be a great beauty. Many of the classical movie stars were always terrifically dressed and groomed. Must have taken them hours and hours to get each and every little curl just perfect.......especially as compared to how many of todays 'stars' glam up.....(NOT)

I think they mostly do, on the right occasion, but just have the sense to bypass it when relaxing in private or not at an official function. The only time I read magazines (other than my archaeology ones) is in the hairdresser, and then only for the posh frocks.

I know that all the "stars" of today dress up too but sometimes I think they work at looking scuzzy. Course some of the great beauties are still just downright plain beautiful no matter how they dress themselves up or down.

Personally, I am about to sue all those magazines that photoshop my body below their faces!!!

Me too..........I'm betting if WI, me and all of on here banded together we'd have a class action lawsuit for all the times they've photoshopped me too......(somebody had to steal me for the Shrek moving! )
