Signs

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

Something about this sign really attracted me. It seemed to really reflect to the audience what this business was selling and gave a sense that the owners really are acquainted with the commodity they're selling.

This sign I thought was interesting as it was still hanging outside a closed storefront and advertising something that is about as used today as the writing on the sign.

I remember the big metal bound trunk my Grannie had when she moved from Scotland. It weighed a ton empty let alone full. Nowadays the airlines are even downsizing the size of the carryons.

You have seen this one before but I DO think 'Sweaty Betty' is an uninviting name for a fashion shop.

Second hand charity shop, maybe. :)

I passed this sign yesterday morning but, as it was on a dual carriageway, couldn't stop so grabbed this from Google Earth.

Image

Thanet Earth is the largest 'greenhouse' in Europe covering approx 80 football pitches in area. They grow tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and other salads by the hydroponic method, that is without soil, just a rockwool bed and constant nutrient watering. In my opinion the products lack any real taste but their production method suits the supermarkets.

This is the plan of the undercover area with the red rectangle representing one football pitch. It is enormous.

That sure is huge. Tomatoes these days do not taste even close to how they used to taste when I was a kid. Greenhouse foods are bland. I'm often curious about the nutrient content too. Maybe taste can't be counted in terms of nutrient content but appetite can sure be measured by taste.

Do you know that long english cucumbers (spineless cucumbers and burpless too) when grown in a greenhouse grow straight otherwise they curl. Apparently customers do not like buying curled cucumbers so they have to be hothouse grown so they stay straight.

Signs of the times are pretty interesting.

Been out and about, solo, a bit yesterday and today. Been using the old bus pass, much cheaper than petrol, it's FREE.

Found this sign under the arch of the Barbican in Sandwich, Kent. It is the 1905 list of tolls to cross the river by the bridge into Thanet. The alternative route is many miles round trip.

Image

They even list a Calash. :)

There is a Euro Fair on at the moment with lots of drink and food stalls, both local and from Europe. Other stalls include Moroccan Leather and this one that I couldn't resist. 'Karma Suiticals'.

Image

Finally, among all the small brewers and cider makers I found this stall. He calls one of his ciders 'Rough old Wife'. Most unflattering, she looked very nice to me. :)

Image

His others were 'Tasty old Wife' and 'Blushing old Wife'. :) :) :)

I've always found this sign kinda cute. It is the sign that advertises my friends business in Trinidad.

Image

This is quite a common political sign down there when you want to indicate it is something you do not want. Probably the only positive I know to denote a negative ;)
