I'm still running XP on my desktop too, Jay! :D Windows 7 on the laptop and an iPad. I do like to have a choice. Come to think of it, I've still got a tower running 98 somewhere too!

My old laptop died and when I bought this new one it came with 8.1 (or maybe only 8) and I do NOT like it. Ever since Horus first mentioned it I've been waiting with baited breath for Windows 10 icon to appear. I'm sure it'll be better.........although I do just hope I'm not going from the fat into the fire.

I am writing this on an old netbook which I am using because my beloved Kindle Fire XP is playing dead. I hope she's playing because she is just out of warrenty, :(

Since I was on level 126 of my favourite game, which is specific to one device only, I may have lost the lot and have to re-start at the beginning.

Therefore I am installing the game on all my devices, just in case, but when it came to this netbook I was required to upgrade to a free offer of Windows 10 - no alternative.

I think it's a bit rich, when it isn't operating yet!

They must be desperate to get this thing off the ground and I'm sure there is huge resistance.

Funnily enough, I have the same game on my other laptop with no problem but it was before Windows 10 loomed up.

I find it a bit strange that they are forcing you to upgrade? are you sure the message is genuine and not a scam of some kind?
If the game does not require any particular O/S in order for it to run then it is even stranger :tk

Is it from Microsoft? Not always easy to tell but if not, it sounds as if someone else has a copy of Win 10 and they may have added attachments that would extract info from your laptop for marketing, or even worse, unscrupulous use. I would steer clear. :(

If you PM me the details I will try to download it and see what happens..

I thought it was fishy and left it well alone.

I will give details later - at the moment I'm in recovery after doing my first on line check in for a flight. Phew!

Yes best left alone and Grandad you should do too, it only needs to drop a dodgy file onto your PC and it doesn;t say that your virus checker will always see it, especially if it is exploiting a vulnerability in some other program such as Java or Flash. Recently Firefox (Mozzilla) was blocking such an exploit that occured within the Flash program and it made some features on this site stop running, when I checked further it was done to stop a vulnerability and Firefox would not allow it to run via its browser until Flash was fixed which it was later in the week.

Kiya, try clicking on the white Window icon on your task bar to see if there is any sort of message. This particular desktop PC I am using is quite old now and although it does everything I want it to do for now it is not exactly 'state of the art' so to speak and it does run some older, but useful programs. When I checked this morning I had a message saying that my graphics card would not support Windows 10, it may be that it is just getting a bit flakey as I have suspected a problem for some time. On the other hand it is more likely that 'Nvidia' no longer update their support for this cards driver so one way or another I need to make a choice, either stick with Win 7 (no problem for me) or upgrade my gaphics card which may or may not help, or think about a new desktop tower, practically I should do the latter. I will probably just update the Laptop and see how it all looks although who's to say there may not be a problem with something on that, hard to say. :tk

Don't worry, it is being 'rolled' out so you may not yet be on the list for installation, it will still be available for a while yet so no problems :up

I was thinking along the same lines as Kiya. Just checked and I get a message that I am on the list for download and they will notify me when it is ready (didn't say how they would notify me, email, gmail or whatever.
But I suppose they have a few around the would who will receive the upgrade so I shall wait patiently. ;)

For you both:
What should happen is that the program will automatically download (in the background) when it is given to you and all you will see is a message to say it is ready to be installed on your machine. You then do not have to do anything immediately, you can take your time as to when you choose to actually 'install' the update, you could take up to a year to do so, therefore no panick ;) or you can tell it to proceed with the update :up

I have nothing here either today - course I was only notified a week or so ago (lost track of time as to when) that it was available for me to reserve my free upgrade and that I'm on a wait list to get it.

I do remember though that when I reserved my copy I had to enter my email address into a box and check another box so that I'd get a notification emailed to me when it was ready for me to download.

There was an advert on TV for Windows 10 last night - first time I've seen it.

Also first time I've watched TV since I got here (Ibiza) I was so tired that I could hardly finish the programme, just made it to bed and slept for an amazing 8 hours straight!

 :up

I have not yet got Win10 BUT I cannot access my Talktalk mailbox this morning , 500 error repot! There is a message on Talktalk home screen that some customers are having problems with Win10 IF they are using Microsoft Client mail which I am not so it looks like there might already be problems with some servers???
