The granddaughter flew through with flying colours. She is a tough scrappy little girl who loves all dresses frilly yet holds her own with her brothers. She knew what was expected (and has been opening her mouth wide for everybody all week to show what she is going to do at the dentist) and since brothers have gone and sat in 'the chair' she had no problem doing it either. Came home holding a piece of gauze in her mouth and actually held it for an hour. Ate applesauce for lunch, had her nap and then popped back up and started to play like nothing happened.

I definitely this it worse on me and her mother thinking of everything that could happen and imagining the PAIN she might have and turns out she is acting like she didn't feel a thing and after her nap was just like normal.

Now that the dentists extracted the tooth it had no enamel. Was quite curious as it was fully formed but just the pulp with a thin (as per the dentist) skim of enamel across the top but nothing on the sides or front or back. Very curious. Dentists said this sometimes happens and should have no adverse affect on her adult teeth. Another 'whew' over and done with.

Going to be one of those 'see what comes along' sort of days, nothing really planned for today.

Teeth are very strange things, don't you think? It's their usually temporary nature that interests me.

My sister had her last baby tooth removed wen she was 34 years old! It was perfectly sound, but she had been suffering headaches and an x-ray showed the adult tooth had grown across the roof of her mouth and interfered with the nerves therein.

Removing the baby tooth was easy, but it took an operation and several stitches to remove the other one.

This afternoon at 1pm, DH will pick up GD for our weekly craft afternoon. Today, we will be trying out paper marbling using shaving foam and paint. I think we both get a lot out of our time together, and it's surprising how many new things I've learned since she was born! However, if any of you see or hear of a new craft that would be suitable for a seven year old and her nanny, do please share it.

Not too sure what is on the agenda today. Starting to plan my next dash to the USA but that isn't much more than just thinking about it although am kinda thinking I might hit a few of the garden centres and see what new plants are in.

All kids love mysteries, so how about making a treasure map by staining thick paper with tea to stain it then dry it our all wrinkled like and burn the edges. Write a message with lemon juice that only shows up after you heat it with a candle flame (or gigarette lighter) Spooky! (if you prepared one earlier) to reveal the hidden treasure in your garden (old jewelry etc. hidden by you) after deciphering all the clues (you write your own to suit your garden or other location) that should keep you both entertained for ages.

Bright but cold day. Have a table booked for lunch, me, Mrs G and a very good friend, a spinster lady. Chapmans of course and although they do some meat dishes we have already decided it will be their 'Bouillabaisse', to die for.
Family all got other arrangements so it is Mothers Day do it yourself.

One of the local shops is having a material sale today so am heading over to see if I can buy a bright yellow plain swack of cloth to finish the back of a rag quilt I'm sewing.

@RS - I've been thinking about your question re: crafts cause I try to do things with the twins who are six. They are absolutely LEGO crazy for the kits that come with instructions to make things i.e. cars, planes etc. They're easily now following step by step instructions for these up to 120 - 140 pieces. They love these and will sit and concentrate for easily an hour ++ as they put these together. I typically sit with just to be part of the making but they're really putting these together themselves and love them.

I think I was about 7-ish when I was introduced to embroidery first via ironed on patterns onto pillow cases. Small easy knitting/crochet,rug hooking projects? Beading and jewelry making?

Painting stones amuses me. Ceramic paint, few brushes and stones and then cover the finished project with lacquer so they can be put outside in the garden.

LLL, thanks for the suggestions. She has her own sewing machine and uses mine quite happily; she's done the loom band bit, she doesn't like hand sewing (takes after Nanny for that then!) she's tried jewellery making - oh dear! In reality, she's happier outdoors but it's not quite the weather yet.

@RS - I think sometimes there are ages and stages that are in-between. Not quite old enough to really do whatever craft well but old enough to want to try but also know the finished product isn't as one wants.

Does she like working with Fimo? Small cute sculptures and with all the colours they're nicer than clay.

Can also get a biggish box, cut down the sides to 3 or 4" high. Go on a collecting spree outside and then make your own landscape complete with paths and stick trees, shells on the seashore ... I remember making these as a child. Used to use dough to sculpt out the landscape, paint to paint and then moss, branches, sand, small stones etc to make the landscape.

Its been a lovely day today so I took Annie out for quite a long walk, my daughter also came along with her Springer Spaniel 'Marley'.
We did a full circuit of the lake and fed the birds and squirrels then walk along the canal until we reached a local mariner where a lot of barges tie up. Although this section of canal runs through some heavily industrialised areas it is nevertheless quite pleasant for most of the way and although it was quite cold it was sunny, so great for walking. We did about 6 miles in total before returning to the lake and having a coffee and an Eccles cake while sitting on the viewing platform around the cafe. I did take a few 'industrial heritage' type photographs which I will see if any are worth uploading later, (if I can) both dogs are now knackered and sleeping soundly.

Not too sure what I'm doing today. I did get the material I was looking for yesterday so might just pass the day sewing.....not too enticing to go outside.

Its very windy which makes everyone grumpy, same as the Mistral. They have more suicides when that is blowing, (I read that somewhere and quite understand it if you must work outside)

Just messed about today, Annie looks knackered and not too fussed about going out in the bad weather, also had a bit of a play at repairing the duff desktop PC.

Got all the winter blankets off the bed, mega laundry day, had the house powerwashed and otherwise just sitting now having a cuppa and watching TV

Early 9AM appointment at the hospital for Mrs G to have an eye injection. There was a picket outside but some doctors were working in the eye department so no problem. Only complaint, hers was the first appointment and she didn't get called until 09.40 although the staff were all there. As she said, philosophically, 'can't complain, it is free and the service is good and the staff all very nice'. And at £700 a go who's complaining.

I have taken to spending a couple of hours in the mornings with 'Big Bertha' upstairs! I'm making tiny steps progress wise!
