Ahh interesting McMaya. Your english was so good I thought you were english and studying both languages Very interesting. When I was a child growing up in Canada because Canada is bilingual we all had to learn french. I loved the language and did very well with it however once I was out of the school environment since none of my family were french and I wasn't speaking it daily my 'skills and abilities' started to fade away. To this day I can still understand it but I have a hard time sometimes remembering words and generating a response. My daughter live in French speaking Canada and teaches it in school to the little ones.

I'm one step closer to seeing the film and having my memory jogged! Bought the DVD on impulse at the supermarket today (never feels right to see a DVD there among my groceries!). I'll no doubt be watching it in the next few days - although there area still a few Christmas films coming up on TV that I've yet to see!

mcmaya, I have just started watching the DVD of Marigold Hotel and stopped it to post this quite early. Just from the way the characters have been introduced I can see it is quite different to the book. That being so their endings in the film are going to be very different to those in the book I am sure. To be honest, if you are going to write about the book or comparisons you really do need to read it to be able to do it properly.

I've now watched the film and enjoyed it (except for the fact that I really don't like Bill Nighy and would not have cast him in that part). However, there is (to my memory) quite a bit missing - both at the begining and the end. Unfortuantely, I don't have my copy of the book to hand to refresh my memory and check back on bits. So again, I do advise that if you have to write about the book, you really do need to read it to compare the two. I am very glad that I read the book before I saw the film - as I am with all films of books I've seen!
