Forgot to say LLL that the screen on the D5000 is not just hinged but fully articulated so I can turn it down and compose and take a self portrait (not that I would want to  ) or I can use the screen to look round corners. It is very versatile and useful.

This is a low level picture for which I couldn't possibly get down for the EVF or a fixed screen.

My only concern is, how reliable is the connections via the hinge; but so far no problems.

I knew the D5000 had the hinged screen but I never thought much about it - now however - it sounds pretty interesting and as far as hidden shots go I can see how it really would be invaluable. Whatever will they think of next that will be the next new gadget to get for the camera?

Sitting in the garden this afternoon, just relaxing in the sun, reading my copy of Amateur Photographer....I choked and nearly dropped my G & T :) Leica have launched a new camera called the Leica M Monochrom......it only does black and white and the body-only price tag is £6120.

See here http://www.reddotcameras.co.uk/product_ ... ts_id=4742

If the sensor is as good as they say I am sure it will record superb black and white images, something you just cannot get with a colour sensor. But I DO wonder who will buy such cameras; probably top end portrait photographers; that counts me out.

Like you say Grandad, who ctually buys these cameras? you have either to be very rich or extremely good at photography to buy one.

Might be worth it for those who shoot in b/w only, if they could afford it that is ;)

Well i was going to stick this in a new post but have decided to use this one, since my little Granddaughter is changing all the time and now getting mobile, all i get down my ear all the time is get your camera - take pictures ( :D :D :D ), so having explained to the Mrs that i would be better with something smaller and quicker to set up than my D300, she totally agreed and offered me the use of her little her Nikon Coolpix 3300, after telling her it is to small for my chunky fingers the hunt was on for a new toy :), so after a visit to Curry's, bit of reading on the net and a trip to the Jessops at the Trafford Centre i have bagged myself a Nikon J1 2619

So i've got 14 days to see if its any good or take it back

Did you get the twin lens kit or just the 10-30 BK?

Don't bum it up too much though or I might not be able to resist the temptation to get one

Not sure that Mrs G would be SO aggreable though ;)

well since it was with her blessing one had to go for the twin lens kit :D, but the pancake 2.8 was tempting, but then so was the V1, but an extra 200 notes just for a view finder better battery and metal body i don't think so, i knew before i bought it that the sensor wasn't the biggest, but i was after something small and fast and this thing is fast, with the right settings they say you can do 60fps :? it will even pick out the best 5 shots for you 8) , so with a bit of luck the rain might p**s off this weekend and ill get to go out and play :)

Another plus ( not sure i would ), you can buy an adapter so my other nikon lenses can fit on it :o

Really Bk? You can fit other Nikon lenses onto this one and all you need is an adapter? Interesting. Hope you get a chance to get out and play - waiting to see your 'new' photos.

My picture taking has been several curtailed lately cause of the rain. It just never stops here......
