Ok - I want to know how come Jojo can get gorgeously leafed out Nasty Things in such short order? I've planted 'em out in the yard and the poor wee pathetic things look just miserable. The biggest on has 4 leaves and each one is about as big as my thumbnail.

What is the secret to success with nasturtiums?

Just to pick up on your Nasturtium question LLL, my dear old dad always used to say that they thrived on neglect. I am not so sure about that, but they certainly do seem to do OK regardless of where you plant them. I usually just push the seeds into the pot and leave them alone.

I took a picture of one plant in a hanging basket and got Mrs H to put her hand alongside to indicate the size of the leaves


This is the actual basket with the plant which from experience will bush out a lot more and reach the ground. It is not flowering yet, but as others have started it should not be long and will probably be covered in flowers until the Autumn frosts kill it off.


This is one that self seeded and is already starting to flower, I have noticed that they usually flower sooner if they are in poorer soil as this one is. Note my ‘White’ Foxglove in the background, it has done really well, these are only the secondary stems, the main flower spike was over 5 feet high and covered from top to bottom.



Just to annoy our JoJo, these are some wildflower seeds that I scattered in a patch that I leave for the Butterfly’s and Bees, they are just starting to flower so hopefully a good show in the coming weeks.

OMG OMG OMG OMG H!!!!!!!! Your nasturiums are HUGE! They look more like those big floating lily pads!!!!!! WOWWWWWWWWW!

Not a hope of my taking a photo of mine now......poor wee shrivelled up nasturtiums and believe me I'm ignoring 'em and they're not in good soil.........

(BTW your garden is absolutely lovely, truly fabulous!!)

My nasties have spread like wild fire and are massive easily bigger than my hands, and ahve lots of flowers on em, and ive ignored them mainly, my other seeds were bloody rubbish so i dig up the weedy lil buggers and planted some nice small begonia and edged em with lobelia

OMG Christing.......YOUR Nasties are as big as your hand? I think I'm growing the dwarf of midget variety then.......and believe me I'm not looking after 'em either. Nothing is as big as my hand, hardly as big as my pinky finger.....Guess I got the rare teeny tiny nasties......

Thing is LLL they seem unlike us to love rain, and weve had plenty of that commodity so i guess that could be why they are so very large.

Ta Dah! Ta Dah! Ta Dah! I finally have one postage sized nasturtium flower! Course the flower is equal to the size of the leaves......'small' but I finally got ONE FLOWER blooming out there!!!!!!!!

Here are some of the sunflowers I have growing at the moment - none are more than 7 inches across - still waiting for the giant Russian to bloom.

This snapdragon is a left over from last year - it didn't die off and just kept growing - this picture was taken nearly 2 months ago and it is still flowering.

Just found another two types





That's my hand holding the last one as it's a bit windy here today.

H - I haven't saved them in the past but I might try this year. Still another two types to take photos of - the giant Russian and another drawf but waiting for both to bloom.

BB your sunflowers are gorgeous. I never had any idea that there were so many different varieties. Is the 3rd photo down really a Sunflower? And do you get sunflower seeds from it? It is really pretty just never would have guessed it was a sunflower.

Thanks LLL - the third one is one of the drawf ones either little Leo or Teddyboy and you get about six blooms per plant. I may let it go to seed and will take a photo of it in seed.

Im with LLL on this one I never realised that there were so many varieties. I just wondered if maybe you left the seed on for the wildbirds during the Winter months?
