Re: What are you doing today?
Well, I shall be trimming 30 badges I have embroidered for an order; clearing and re-formatting a couple of USB sticks and transferring designs to sew. No sewing for me today!
I, too, wish Robbo and Omar a great time and look forward to some 'on the ground' reports!

Thanks guys
We are on our first leg of our adventure. We just arrived at the hotel in liverpool and will be going to the mstch at 6pm. Then I think a few beers in town before bed. Tomorrow we get the 1047 to london for stage 2 of the great adventure......and at the risk of sounding like a4....I shall update that story at a later date

Re: What are you doing today?
I'm test driving my two new reclining armchairs my daughter bought me.
She bought them online without being able to try them first, but I love them. They are cosy and comfortable with a high seat - exactly the fits the back of my knee so very easy to rise from. When the lever for recline is pulled the reaction is almost explosive, it is very quick and the chair actually moves forward an inch or two. A bit un-nerving at first, but so comfortable as a recliner I would be happy to sleep in it.
The drawback comes when restoring the normal chair position. It is necessary to use quite a bit of pressure to lock the leg support back in place. If I have a problem, because of my dodgy knees, I'll see if it's possible to put a different spring in the works.
Lovely to have, for the first time a comfortable seat to use my laptop actually on my lap.

Re: What are you doing today?
MD, when we replaced our leather 3 piece suit a few years ago we decided to splash out and got ourselves a really good deal, one of the two armchairs and the outer two seats of the setee all have powered 'Lazy Boy' mechanisms fitted to them, so you press the control buttons and they go anywhere between reclined and fully flat. Having said that I don't think any off them have been used above a dozen times as I am always looking for the cat to be underneath
@Robbo, just so long as you don't do an A4 and waffle on about everything and hint at all sorts of things and secret contacts without actually saying anything at all.

Re: What are you doing today?
We had been very impressed by the efficient and friendly contact with the company who supplied the chairs, so I gave them a ring. I had found that one chair appeared to have a gap under one of the four feet, so rocked when empty - however when sitting it was impossible to rock it which seemed odd. I also mentioned the difficulty I had when restoring the leg support.
A very pleasant and efficient young lady immediately arranged for a technician to visit the house and see if he could improve matters - what a pleasant change from "customer service" in general.

MD, don't know if you are aware, but if you have a disability you should be able to get some universal bases that fit into the castor holes of existing furniture so as to raise them to a more convenient height to assist people in standing up or sitting down. We had to get them for my mum as she become more infirm and they are supplied via Social Services.

Re: What are you doing today?
Off shortly to visit Mum and my brother, need to attend to a bit of business, but may leave part of it until Monday as the traffic tends to get busy on a Friday afternoon.
Put a big pot of 'Lobby' on in the slow cooker so that saves me having to prepare a dinner when I get home, daughter should be visiting around 3.30 or so, then a sit down with feet up for a few hours (and maybe even nod off) then all being well off up the pub about 9 pm with my mate for a few beers and hopefully I wont fall flat on my face like last week
No, not too many beers, just missed my footing and fell onto my knees, then as it was downbank I fell forwards again arms outstretched. my mate thought I had converted to Islam
luckily no broken bones just a grazed knee and an injured pride

Re: What are you doing today?
I didn't know that Horus, thank you. The new chairs are OK, but there's a leather Chesterfield upstairs that's too low, so I'll see about getting some "cups".Horus wrote:MD, don't know if you are aware, but if you have a disability you should be able to get some universal bases that fit into the castor holes of existing furniture so as to raise them to a more convenient height to assist people in standing up or sitting down. Re: What are you doing today?
MD, its more like a light metal frame that has pegs that are inserted into the holes where the castors usually locate, it is a universal 'fit anything' design and raises the furniture by around 5" or so.

Re: What are you doing today?
Gee - those chair risers are more than interesting. I dunno if they are here or not. Have never seen them but they'd definitely sure be handy. I DO see lots of electric lift chairs for sale here but these would definitely be a far superior alternative than having to purchase and buy new chairs that can electrically lift you. Another thing being touted here on TV are chairs you sit on that get you UP and DOWN stairs.
I didn't do much today unless one counts grocery shopping and doing laundry as exciting.

Re: What are you doing today?
It's a choice between doing paperwork that I've been ignoring for far too long, or making a list of all the stuff to be chucked out and ordering the lorry to take it. It will make a great difference if I get it shifted, both to the look of the house and my stress levels. I do like order, not completely minimalist but hate clutter.
On the other hand I am a natural hoarder.
Every so often though I do a clean sweep and at the moment as the house hadn't been lived in for so long before I arrived and was just basically storing "stuff" that daughter and now ex-partner hadn't taken to Ibiza some of the junk isn't mine.
I shall also be continuing to test drive the new chairs - they worked very well during the Wales/France match last night. I can't usually sit for long, but as I could frequently alter the back rest and leg support I walked away without much of a limp.

Thankyou Horus. I will now be devising large lumps of wood joined together by a plank, so it cant move anywhere, I dont think those designs would last long here ! Over 50 pounds for the sofa one !!!

Today I will be taking the 'Beast' back to the shop for the dealer to (hopefully) free up the stuck bobbin!
I bought this sewing machine just under a fortnight ago and got going on it on Tuesday last. It's totally computerised so a steep learning curve. However, I will NOT be beaten by a machine!!!

Re: What are you doing today?
Yesterdays main event was Wales v France.....Well done Wales
........Top of the table but just for now
England v Ireland coming up later and that is the only highlight for today unless a trip into town this AM counts.
Two points of interest from this AM.
1) As the £ is falling fast I went to get some Euros before they fall any further. Changed my mind, at only 1.23eu to £1 and I don't need them for a couple of months I decided to wait and hope that the pound settles at a higher level.
2) MD, do you have a blue badge? I do and it is invaluable when I want to park as near as possible to my destination (even on yellow lines and on street pay parking) and especially at weekends.
