Well that's a surprise!

Went out to pick some tomatoes for dinner & on the way back in saw what I thought was 1 on the ground then realised it was a strawberry! Perfectly ripe & absolutely delicious but in October! :o There are 2 or 3 more on the plant but not ripe yet.

Woo Hoo! A fully ripe pristine strawberry is indeed a wonderful surprise! How as it eaten? Popped into the mouth whole? Cut up on top of ice cream? Dipped into sugar and then slowly eaten in chunks?

I don't know if this happens there but almost always Strawberries here get mixed with Rhubarb. I'm not sure if it is just to extend the strawberries OR if it has to do with the flavour the rhubarb gives to the mix. The preferred rhubarb to grow here is a variety called "Strawberry rhubarb."

LLL we cut it in half & ate it with it to our dessert of almond slice.

We picked rhubarb tonight & had that with dark chocolate ice cream.

We're making the most of the end of the season produce at the moment. Still getting lots of tomatoes so made soup today.

Another 3+ kgs of cherry tomatoes today, & at least as many still left not quite ripe. Really must plant less next year, running out of room in the freezers!
